Shotgun ammo crafting question
After i finally owned a shotgun(for 20 minutes, i met superbear, i guess and died again on my way back to my lootcrate), i crafted some ammo for it. Two times from six empty shells and more than enough gunpowder i got 1 shotgun shell each, and one time i got 6 shotgun shells. So what is supposed to be right, i guess 6 empty shells, 6 full shells, but i am not sure now.

And how many hits in the face does a level two bear need? Had only two shots, but i thought two shots into the face of something should solve the problem, but... xD

Shotgun shells seem to be the most rare to find and crafting them only a little less expensive than rifle rounds.

They have a pretty wide spread so a bear even with my 3 times upgraded damage shotgun often takes two shots at very close range.

Recommendation is to NOT take on bears with your basic shotgun. Use it to kill lvl 3 and below wolves...but wait till they are upon you so you do maximum damage. There is a very narrow window where it will die and you'll take no damage. Too far and you'll have to use two shells, too close and you'll kill it but may be injured and/or bleeding. Put a bandage on the hotbar :)

Early game I'd avoid all fights if you can, you will waste ammo if you go looking to kill things. Catch chickens and eat protein bars.

Thanks Zuleica!!!

Ok, so shotgun only for wolves, and for bears the rifle?
Protein bars, i guess i found three in around 12hrs of gameplay xD
Rabbits are rare too, and chickens try to lure me to their "best friends". I really wanna know what the wolves and bears pay those chickens for that...
It`s not even bad if i die from no meat, on my way back i can collect new stuff and put it into my crate.

Edit:

But what should be the outcome of 6 empty shells and enough blackpowder. One shotgun shell or six shotgun shells?

Ammo creation needs some work. Should be 1 casing per bullet. Maybe just increase the gun power requirements but please CG make it 1 casing per bullet.

One shell for six casings. And I'd not use rifles on bears. Use upgraded shotgun, it's just expensive until you have lots of mats.

What lvl of shotgun kills the bears point black with 1 shot?
Jerry Fletcher Dec 19, 2016 @ 2:03pm
Ah, ok ,then the one time where i got 6 shells for 6 casings was a bug... :steamfacepalm:

So rifles are good for... nothing?
I read that pistols are best against hunters, normal shotgun is for wolves and upgraded shotguns for bears. And the rifle to put on the wall, as deco....

Rifles kill lvl1 and i think lvl2 wolfs with 1 shot when you upgrade it to lvl4. Level 3 bears i kill them with 3 shots.

i haven't played in a few days but iirc, 1 shell requires 6 casings. i agree, this needs some balancing. maybe reduce the casing requirement and just add a third ingredient: pellets/ball bearings (slugs/bullet tips for pistol/rifle ammo).

if you take a look at the beginners guide pinned on the forum, there is a breakdown of the damage for each gun/upgrade. the shotgun is actually the best for wolves and bears but it requires some good timing as they need to be very close. i'm pretty sure you can take down a level 3 bear with 2 full-impact head shots from a level 0 shotgun. the trick is waiting for them to be right up in your face. basically, just imagine puting the shotgun in their mouth. otherwise, some of the pellets will miss and your shot won't do full damage.

a level 0 rifle can kill the hunters with 1 head shot. currently, the aim and/or range of the rifle isn't balanced correctly and you have to be closer than you should; which is why people say the pistol is better. but if you are good at picking strategic vantage points and sneaking up on them, the rifle is certainly the most effective.

I think it will take a time till i will see some hunters. And i will lure them to a fake base(fits to the fake news times we live in xD) in a corner i don´t need to visit. But first i will build my base structures of one main base and four smaller outposts, without any BCU.

But thanks for your tips, it is good to know what weapon is good for shooting what!!!

A bear can go down in 2 shots if done right, but it's not easy.
