Each player will of course drain the spawn counter, so you would need to make sure that the bed has more than just 1 respawn counter.
What ColdGames needs to do is make it so that players who share a BCU can't damage each other.
OMG...what a novel idea lol.
-drops mic
Optional, please, a friendly fire setting that can be turned on or off prior to the game being hosted is all we need here (at least, for coop).
If the friendly fire is a game-wide setting, then that would eliminate a "factions" scenario for players that want pvp.
If it is instead tied to the BCU, and players who share it, then people, or groups, on separate BCUs could attack each other if they wanted to.
Where as a blanket game wide option would mean either everyone is at war, or no one is.
If anything, it needs both.
If you set it to pvp at a global level, then adding players to a shared BCU should turn friendly fire off among the players that share it.
That's why I specified 'at least for coop'. I realise if you're talking pvp (and consequently, teams) a different setup needs to be designed, though the shared-BCU thing won't work unless added players are prompted and thus have the ability to refuse the offer to join that BCU.
Alpha, Learn to aim for the mean time ? Drops The Mic.
Wait what, this game is in alpha??? I had no idea!!! There should have been some sort of warning on the store page when I bought it almost a year ago...like wtf Steam????
Do you have any idea how simple it would be to add a few lines of code so that "in the mean time" players that share the same BCU cant kill each other so that you're not accidentally getting killed during hunter fights?
Pretty damn simple. Literally would just be setting up a few flags here and there that are checked when damage is dealt by the player.
I'd drop my mic, but it would appear that it's already on the floor.
And nobody's going to pick it up. Why?
What if people don't want to be on your BCU? Suppose you just killed one of our teammates but we can't retaliate because you just added us all?
You gotta think about it a bit more mate. Like I said, it would need a prompt or something so people could turn it down.
Im not saying that it shouldn't have those kinds of options.
Im saying that the game needs these kinds of options sooner rather then later, otherwise to quote Shadow "in the mean time" players are going to have to deal with friendly fire being on and accidentally killing each other.
We already have people complaining about being killed while offline. We have people complaining about being killed on site.
All the while, I think to what ColdGames said "PvP is not a focus" and I cant help but look at these complaints and wonder why then was MP launched with friendly fire enabled to begin with...
It should have been turned off to begin with, with server options added later for PvP, if PvP is not the focus. At least then we would have avoided all these "I was killed, please fix this" threads.
This really shouldn't be a "in the mean time" situation. Players are having problems with it right now.
And truly, just adding in some basic flags to player dealt damage would help to alleviate the problems.
It's either that, or "in the mean time" people just have to deal with toxic people being toxic, or being accidentally killed.
There are very simple solutions for the now to make the experience more enjoyable. More PvP options can be added later, when and if the focus becomes PvP.
And of course the option to decline a BCU invite should be there, that's common sense. But a BCU invite if accepted should turn friendly fire off among those that share it.
yes
Simple or not is that how the game play should work? it's of cause all about playing style, some will like it some will not. If they remove friendly fire from the game I wont be playing Co-Op anymore.
Co-Op hardcore are most fun I have had playing a computer game in a very long time, think we need to go back to at least 1998. The friendly fire adds to the excitement and to the whole Co-Op experience. You cant simply go wild, you need to work as a group or friendly fire going to happen.
What ever ColdGames do about this it must be some kind of option and suddenly it's not that easy any more. Yes actual code is not that hard but underlying design is, because you don't want to paint your self in to a corner that will end up in recoding the whole thing in a moth or two.
Think about it a bit, remove friendly fire and you remove yet another risk, your buddies can unload magazines without the slightest concernt for accuracy, without the slightest concern for operational security, without the slightest concern for planning and group tactics. How utterly rediculous, how is that at all enjoyable to play with people that don't give a frack about actually figuring out how to play and COOPERATE. Now as to the PvP gankers that just want to shoot you in the back of the head...find other people to play with, they're not out to play a game with you, just to play a game with themselves using you for their own entertainment.
