Need more Mass
Hi
This forum is really helpful and I need more help. Trying to
build a workbench and some other items that need additional power
and mass. I have a generator so I'm OK for additional power but
how can I raise my mass. The meter reads 100/100 but I need 120.
I have a Mass Fabricator which at this moment shows 30/100 mass.
How do I raise the mass to 120?
As aways, thanks for any help.

BCU
Mass storage tank - 100 + limit
Power storage tank - 500 + limit

To add mass you need the recycler or mass fabricator and mass storage unit to hold it... good luck.

Hi .. as mentioned .. build a mass storage tank (each adds 100) .. the BCU only will go to default 500 power and 100 hundred mass storage .. Soo .. build power storage tank to add 500 power each .. crank up your generator .. build mass storage tank (+100) .. and turn on your mass fabricator to get to your goal :)) .. happy gamming :))

Thanks for the quick response, one Mass Storage Tank on the way!
Happy gaming, likewise!

Though I have yet to run any calculations, and as someone who has both the recycler and mass fabricator....I feel the recycler is the way to go. I seem to consistently have a surplus of zinc and potassium ore. I just throw those into the recycler when I require more mass. Seems like a better trade off, rather than turning on the mass fabricator.

Happy hunting, Akeel!

It's not as simple as running a calculation. The choice depends more on what mode you're playing on, what stage of the game you're in, and what you medium and long term strategy is.

I play almost exclusively on hardcore where mats are MUCH less prevelent. Consequently in the early and mid game where you don't have mats to toss in the recycler but often do have plenty of biofuel to run generators it makes much more sense to use the converter.

If you have plans for sprawling or multiple bases then again the converter makes more sense.

On my original normal mode and advanced hardcore profiles however I have a ton of mats to spare so the recycler makes sense.

Those are some excellent points regarding early-mid game, and the difference between normal and hardcore. Sometimes I am so focused on my current state of affairs (normal mode; mid-to late game) that I forget how I got to this point.

I am curious though, whether mass is generated more efficiently via the fabricator with the generators running vs. dumping the biofuel into the recycler.

That is an interesting question. But not hard to figure out. I've never tossed biofuel in the recycler as it's more valuable since it's used to craft a bunch of items. What does a single biofuel give in the recycler?

It's not hard to figure out though as long as you don't have solar panels, since both eat power in the process. The genny will run more than a night full and that will botch your results.
Dump biofuel in an empty generator and count what it takes to fill. Then flip on the genny and generator as fast as possible and see how much mass is created before it runs dry . Granted, the genny only puts out 1.5 and the fabricator eats 2.5 so record your power loss. Then dump the same amount of biofuel in the recycler and record how much power it eats as well.

Or maybe ColdGames will chime in and make it easy. ;) I'm guessing it's a close horse race though.

Ultimately I prefer the recycler. It generates mass instantly, and once you're well along in Normal mode, you've probably got a lot of squirreled items to feed it. I keep a storage crate full of logs next to mine. And I've got sooooo many nails, zinc ore, and electronics as well to feed it when needed.

The recycler also takes energy so you'd still have to dump biofuel in the generator.

3 mass for one bio fuel, 6 power to convert. If you farm small animals a lot, you will have extra bio fuel.
