They can be.... around rocks I can cheese them sometimes... but they can be crack shots in the open or around their or your base..... best to start on easy mode without hunters them turn them on when you and your base are ready..... now cougars they are the APEX predator:)

I have trouble with the hunters, but can kill them with persistence. I DO NOT fight them in the open, they are crack shots and fire from range. The hide in bushes and fire from them, they duck behind trees and come out to shoot you. I am not a good or accurate shot when someone is weaving and dodging (as they do), so I built an armored box near the bases of two groups, and use it to fight from. I have fought them in the open, but I used a lot of bandages and health kits.

Can you sneak around them or do they prety much auto spot you?

The hunter AI has been a heavy focus in the development process, and they still need a lot of work. It's something that will continue to evolve as the project moves forward. They will defend their territory, fight with the wildlife and launch attacks on player bases. You can checkout many youtube videos of hunter fights. Here's a quick example clip if you're curious (at 8:30 in the video): https://youtu.be/va5rF3IaP58?t=8m30s

They will spot you at a certain distance, but it's easy to skirt around them. At this point in the in the game design they aren't the smartest AI going, but they are crack shots and like bees. Anger one and any others at their camp and base are coming for you too.
Hunters can be turned on or off at will to allow newbies to get used to the world first.

I lasted about 20 to 30 minutes. Then it got dark and I chose a poor campsite to build a fire and a wolf kicked my ass. Hahahah
Cool game. Now I'll read the guide posts.

Can the hunters swim?

Yes but it is funny to see them swim and attack😎

hevy, get on top of a rock at night, a tall one. I like the rocks near the middle lake and have built my base there in the past. If you crouch, you might hear the animals growling at the base of the rocks, but they won't come up if you stay at the highest point. It does not get cold enough to kill you without a fire which is another plus. You have the right attitude to make a success of this game by the way.

There is definately a lot to learn. Is that a really small lake? I found one but its not big at all. A wolf just kicked my ass, on the way back to get my gear from a wolf kicking my ass a few minutes earlier, while I was trying to shoot a rabbit that has matrix like bullet dodging skills.. hahahah
So I'm headed to read survival skills for newbs guide. And I saw a crafting guide that I'll check out.

Heavy, the best rocks to camp at night are the ones that you can climb up at a STEEP angle. The animals can only climb up at maybe 50-60 degree slopes but you should be able to get up an 80-85 degree slope on the rock. They can't shimy up with their 4 legs the way you can with only two
