IF you set the game in infinite mode and hard mode game is almost unplayable. It gets laggy as hell

I'm experiencing problems using controllers with the game. I configured my controllers (one XBOX 360 and another obscure third-party DirectInput controller) according to the UpwardsConfig.pdf and all buttons are configured correctly, but when I press/hold a button in the game, it seems to be pressed in quick succession, making it extremely hard to navigate through the menu and nearly impossible to use the double jump (the second jump occurs almost simultaneously with the first one). Is it possible to play the game without a time limit? especially the storymode? I want to play it in my own slow way, the time is to short for me to get to the top, thx
