Game thinks my Xbox controller is a PS4 controller, impossible to get past "orbs of light" puzzles!

For some reason, the game is detecting my controller as a PS4 controller. Both, in that this is the controller that appears in the options menu and when I get to an orb of light, it wants me to tilt the controller, which is of course, impossible to do with an Xbox controller. Does anyone know the solution? I've tried enabling and disabling controller support in Steam, but this doesn't seem to help.

This is a very odd thing.. but I've seen it before in games where the game is identifying the controller as a DirectInput Controller rather than an Xinput Controller.. sometimes there will be a generic driver for a directinput controller that the game is recognising (I've had some success deleting other drivers or all drivers in control panel for HID compliant game device etc. and having windows reinstall when plugging the controller back in or even just trying a different usb port that the driver wasn't registered to - might be a shot?)
