1. Buy the game.
2. Download the VRGIN mod 1.1 by Eusth on Github (google VR Ghost of a Tale for link).
3. Run Steam console (see YouTube videos if you don't know how). While in Steam console, download an older version of game 7.08 (type this command "download_depot 417290 417291 3656326342022463498" without the quotes. Find the downloaded file in your steam downloads (usually under c drive, check program files x86, content, app_ , depot or search for GOAT).
4. Copy above downloaded files directly in your GOAT steam folder
5. Unzip mod files. Copy files directly into your GOAT steam folder.
6. Move GOAT.exe unto IPA.exe file. That makes a command prompt show up, which creates a new startup option for GOAT. Pin this new shortcut to taskbar for easy starting.
7. Start Steam VR.
8. Then start the new shortcut GOAT. Wait until game starts before doing next step.
9. Type Control + C, Control + V, then press F5. (you may need to do this more than once in that order).
10. You should be in VR. If you see clouds or skies or you're not positioned correctly, Repeat Step 9.
It didn't start in VR though. I even added --vr to the new launch executable that was created when I dragged goat.exe over the IPA.exe. Adding --vr just started the game in windows mode on my desktop and the VR in bigscreen mode in which I could only see the UI and a light grey screen.
What am I doing wrong? Maybe I'm downloading the wrong VRGIN mod. Two of the three I downloaded did not contain an IPA.exe file. Only this version of the mod had an IPA.exe file: https://github.com/Eusth/VRGIN.Template/releases/tag/1.1 But that may not be the entire VRGIN mod?
Depot download failed : Manifest not available
Has the VR compatible version been removed?
Yes, since I even bought the game ONLY for VR, but it never worked.
They should simply add VR. If the mod works that well (even without third party software), then these devs must be able to get it working.
Nope. Not downloading at all. Seems like the developers deleted the old version which is fine but could you then delete the post too? It is not like this will help anyone to run it in VR anymore sadly.

I will save you time in the process by providing these IDs
App ID: 417290
Depot ID: 417291
Manifest ID: 3656326342022463498
I followed these steps (exception for a deviation before step 8 which I will list below the quote):
Only issue in the above instructions is before step 8, right click the new "GoaT (Patch & Launch)" file and click properties. Make sure the end of the "Target" line has --launch --vr as listed here:
Once game is up, follow step 9 in the instructions in the first quoted message until it looks right.
Game is definitely not optimal for VR but is a cool short time experience. Moving felt a bit nauseating, especially at a spiral stair case in which I needed to stop. Not sure if there is another mod out there to help with that.
I too bought the game when it first got VR support, but never got to play it at the time. So I paid full price but have never played it, and without VR I'll never bother to do so.
I'm in precisely the same situation.
