Who should own the rights?
With GSC gone, who do you think should pick it up?

I personally think the best course of action is to get Valve to grab it.

Pop Cap - Anomalies Vs. Zombies

A GSC executive has said the company is not officially gone and confirmed that the rights are not being sold. Also, I don't see how valve can pull it off on their engine. I would much rather see it be done by 4A Games.

This. 4A can make a mean post apocalyptic game. Only thing is though that STALKER is so unique. Would another game developer be able to make another STALKER instead of a shooter?

The rights of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s franchise are owned by Grigorovych Sergey (the founder of GSC Game World) - he wrote about it in the press.

I recall in a translated text that Sergey was unhappy with the progress of the dev team and pulled the plug. That dev team went on to form Vostok games and are working on that mmo.

I've heard rumors about S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 being re-continued, I WANT TO BELIEVE

We all do. I thought the owner of the IP explicitly said that he does not want to make a sequel.

What if Sergey worked with Valve to make the game? It would still be his property, i guess, though I can't really see much harm with the idea of Valve collaborating with Vostok with STALKER 2.

Vostok games (former GSC) is now busy with another game and they are doing everything possible to make it happen. They won't be working on anything else till it's done.

So Bethesda didn't buy the rights? That would be good news. As it stands, I'm not sure I want to see this series continued. There are too many ways for a new studio to ruin it.

Also, I wouldn't expect Valve to do it unless they suddenly open a branch in Eastern Europe.

That's actually for the movie known as Stalker. GSC's S.T.A.L.K.E.R. i think is still up for grabs.

Dont even think about valve owning the license of stalker it would loose its touch it would be like half life 2 so much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cut content and the ugly source engine of course and an extra easy mode for the console players S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 will happen maybe not this year but in a few years we will see it but a stalker from valve oh god why no please no.
