SPOILERS what happens if you choose the other option at the end?
I choose to leave the zone but what happens you choose to stay?

Can you complete all unfinished quests, walk freely on the 'Zone' and study it better. but at any time you can get out of the "Zone" (approach the conductor)

you remain in the ZONE in the "free play". In the building where there was a military camp, settled stalkers. With them came and Uncle Yar. It's free heals and repairs weapons. So there are people-a guide for travel to Yanov and Zaton. With it you can then leave the Area.:sherlockhead:

Depending on your choices and actions, there's also some minor differences in the zone. You can end up with Mercenaries and Stalkers wandering around Pripyat, for example.

The ALife system also seems to proc bigger mutants in the free roam version. Including things like Psuedogiants. Or multiple Dwarves above ground.

I stayed in the Zone of Alienation and racked up 3 million roubles, over 1000 kilos of useful loot in my Pripyat stash (ammo, food, mutant meats, cooking fuel, all kinds of repair kits and items, batteries etc. etc), and hundreds of hours in the Zone, especially Pripyat. It was fun.
