S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

[Spoilers] Horrible ending
Am I the only one who was extremely disappointed in the ending of CoP? When I finally got to Pripyat I was pretty excited to explore the city, but before doing so I decided to do a few of the main quests in the laundromat. Then within about an hour of getting to Pripyat, the game was suddenly over. No climactic trip to the CNPP, just flying away out of the zone. I had decided to replay a save to continue to play, but knowing there is nothing left to do in the main quest leaves the game somewhat empty and lifeless. So, does anyone else feel the same way?

Yeah. It was anti-climatic. Still, a great game. Pripyat would have been much better if there was a lot more to do. Next game...perhaps?
Yeah CoP was on the way to becoming my favorite STALKER game until I got to Pripyat, maybe there are some good mods that can revive the game. And if they do make another game, I hope they chose to move the story into a new direction, and not in the trend of just revealing a little info on Strelok's life...
despite the seeming simplicity of the storyline of the game , once You get to Pripyat there is something to do. you can explore the city, find the caches, dangerous and interesting anomalies with expensive and rare artifacts, finally to find 2 sets of tools for the calibration as much as possible to improve your weapons and gear. believe me, have been pumped in the exoskeleton of you become like the terminator, and the maximum and properly pumped , for example SURF and GP 36 no recoil weapons! what can you say about the Beretta and March with fully automatic fire ?!?!? or SEVA suit with 5 containers for the artifacts and the ability to walk freely for any anomalies with the appropriate set of artifacts on the belt ??? try this! :bigups:
Knowing about the ending I'll have to have another go at the game to enjoy Pripyat a little more before it ends.
Yes - definitely. The game feels very unfinished - pretty obvious that the ending was a rush job. The whole game is a bit empty and lifeless in general (now that you mention it). There's whole areas and buildings with almost no content. I remember finding a large office block somewhere - it was night and I was creeping around it - enjoying every second - but after a while I realised there was nothing in there lol and that became quite a common experience in the game.
Yes I know exactly what you mean. I suppose that realistically most of those places would be empty, in fact I know most of Pripyat is empty, but that is boring. It's the job of the game developers to fill those empty spaces with excitement. If anyone knows of some good mods to fill in those gaps I would appreciate it.
it is kinda lame. Each of STALKER series has its light and shade. SoC = good story, weak gameplay mechanics. CS = weak story but pretty long enough and freeplay feature after the ending, vastly improved gameplay mechanics. CoP = very weak main story but more focused on side story, even more improved gameplay.
I think that Pripyat was supposed to be bigger: just look at the comparative map size for Zaton, Jupiter and Pripyat (although, granted, Pripyat is more densely packed with little empty space, unlike Zaton). The playable Pripyat map is half the size of the playable Zaton.

I also think that it was a mistake to make so many rooftops inaccessible in Pripyat--even the laundromat has climbable features that get you tantalizingly close to roof access but just not quite enough. In contrast, the first time you make it to the roof of the ranger station in Zaton is a revelation: it's a great view even if it serves no purpose.

I spend most of my time in Misery mod (post-campaign) freeplay, having elected to stay in the city and not evacuate with the rescue helicopters. It's a great way to thoroughly explore the maps, especially Pripyat. And despite my hours in the game, I very recently discovered a room with a stash that was accessed by a poorly illuminated doorway that I had never before noticed was open (I had always thought it was wall texture and had never looked closely).

In Misery mod's post-campaign freeplay Pripyat is tremendously exciting and incredibly dangerous. I once had five (FIVE) pseugogiants bearing down on me from the park/kindergarten area during one of my excursions. Chimeras usually come in threes (or fours) and I am frequently assailed by multiple Monolith squads, especially in the area around the hospital. I highly recommend you give it a try.

Cheers, in my current game there has been a stash at the ranger station for ages that I just can't find and have realised it must be on the roof but I can't find a way to get on there. Now I know it's possible I'll keep trying. I'm thinking it must be getting on the fence at the main entrance to then hop on to an outbuilding that has a pipe leading up to the building I need to get on to but I've not worked out how to get on the fence. I'll try not to cheat and ask :D

The ending isn't horrible but it is a tad too short which always stands out for me when I have a playthrough but now I've started using mods it's less of an issue. The vanilla version ends too quickly after getting to Prypyat and there doesn't seem much point in staying behind after evac but mods changes all of this.

The actual ending of the game when you leave the zone is one of the most compelling I've seen and makes me realise how I had created a bond with these people.
"Within an hour...the game was suddenly over." I don't follow. I spent over an hour searching for documents and killing things in the LabX8 alone. And Pripyat is where you'll find the absolute best artifacts in difficult anomalies. Now all my favorite weapons (I've collected or bought many) and suits (SEVA and CS-3a) are upgraded all the way (Tier 3 - Cardan and Nitro now have all their tools). Why evacuate -- at least for a while?

One question: One of the soldiers in the captain's squad in the laundromat keeps talking about Americanski (and then laughing). Does anybody know what he's saying?
