Can I Sleep or Jump Time?
I've just bought this game, on sale on GOG, so I've only just started. I've found the ship & got quite a few missions & have done 2 of the chopper sites & retreived the box from that crack full of Snorks(?) Hairy! Now I've got back to the ship but it's night & not many stalkers are there. There are several beds but they're all occupied. Surely I don't just have to actually wait for morning to see the stalkers I need to see do I? Oh, I got a full load of gear off a stalker who got killed by a Snork so I don't want to go adventuring til I've had a chance to off load all that gear. I've found the manual, which is much more comprehensive than the in game options menu, but doesn't say anything about passing time, quick travel or that sorta thing.

Yes. As far as sleeping bags I am not sure, and in misery mod bedrolls don't seem to be letting me sleep, don't know if that's a bug for not but I am sure it is.
Anyway, if you have no mods, and want to sleep, go to Skavodsk(???), that is the first trading hub and safe zone you come across (inless you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ moster and survive the emissions and bandits and kill em all and steal there gear and live in there bases.). On the second floor there is a room full of beds. You can sleep in there.

In vanilla you have to just treck your way through the night, there are mods that add bed rolls etc. But yes in Vanilla you can either wait, or use your torch if you have no NV.

There should be an open bed for you to sleep in on the Skadovsk

On the Skadovsk, all you have to do is go upstairs, you will see a room on your left where you can deposit your stuff in the box/chest and from that room you can enter the bed room.
Just entering that room will give you the option to sleep (watch for the message "press F to sleep") at the bottom of the screen.

All mission NPCs should be there regardless if its night or day (there are a few exceptions like Grouse but thats mission related and nothing to do with day/night).

Since you mentioned quick travel, there is a stalker named Pilot at the center table of the Skadovsk bar area who can take you to Yanov. You can get a discount on this service if you give him a map from one of the crashed helicopters (should be easily accessible from Skadovsk's area).

I'm new to the game myself, but it seems semi-common that mission NPC's can take you directly to an area (i.e. quick travel/teleport) instead of you having to actually go and meet them at the mission area.

A lot of the wandering stalkers that you can dialogue with in the zone, will have an option to take you to whatever place they are going to, for a fee of course.
You have to ask where they going or what they are up to first, then this option will show.

Thanx all. You know, the best thing about this game is it's quite punishing! I don't think I was properly equipped for that unreachable stash mission, & only just made it out of there without dying! As a result, I panicked a bit & ended up on the wrong ship. Duh! Found the right one & your info's all good. Just need to work out who will buy this gear I've salvaged. They don't make it easy for you with the tags/labels do they. I need to get some serious money from the looks of things. Even after giving Pilot my maps, he still wants a 1'000 to take me anywhere! It cost 900 to have my ♥♥♥♥ armor repaired! I'm figuring they only pay peanuts for salvaged weapons & such. Where do I make serious money?

Ask everybody you meet for jobs and quests. Beard (bartender) pays VERY well for artifacts. Any guns or ammo you don't use can be sold to Owl for a decent price. Giving Cardan 2 bottles of vodka reduces his repair/upgrade prices and unlocks other upgrades (I tried giving him 3 bottles but he just fell asleep xD). Killing people and taking their stuff can be lucrative, albeit morally questionable.

First couple of play throughs I stood on the top deck and waited out, next few I used energy drinks and legged it between boats.. Now I'm a little more familiar I pretty much mosey on across. It is punishing though, and long before the "survival" genre had taken off. Love these games ; )

Thanx all. Owl only buys good condition weapons. Out of the 10 or so I looted from a dead stalker, he only wanted 4 & 2 of those I needed to keep. Also, as with most RPG he pays V little & asks V much. I find it really tricky to compare weapons for effectiveness & even knowing their condition isn't obvious. Ammo seems quite scarse at present, well for the better weapons, part of the punishing aspect. The enemies are pretty tough tho too, especially if they make you bleed. I'm on Normal diffficulty too, must be a real challenge on harder settings.

Even if you play the game vanilla, I think it doesn't matter what stage of the game you are in, all weapons can be effective if you know how to use them and they aren't in bad condition. And if your suit costs 900 RU to repair, try and repair it because eventually this type of stuff can cost more than 900 RU and you won't be able to afford it. Some games will tell you to save your money and or repair kits until the gear is nearly broken, but in this game it really matters, and it WILL decrease your combat effectiveness and your survivalibility in anomalies. And if you want to keep a weapon: go for it. That's one less weapon you'll have to buy in the future, and one less ♥♥♥♥♥♥ gun you'll have to use in the future. And if you haven't already, get a decent suit to go artifact hunting. You can get decent money for it.

Thanks John. A decent suit is top of my list of priorities! I gather that Artifacts are the way to earn serious money, but I've got a Soul Artifact from the unreachable stash box & it seems to offer useful perks if I hang on to it. Don't know if I'm sposed to equip it in some way. I guess that's why they're worth good money eh? btw, I repaired my baic suit even at that high cost, coz I know from experience already that you need every advantage you can get in this game. As I said before, it's a punisher. :)

Yeah some artifacts are keepers, you can equip them if your armor has open slots for artifacts.
The technician (Cardan) can upgrade your armors to have more artifact slots.
Most artifacts emit radiation so in order to equip them you need to find one of the few artifacts that absorb radiation and equip that one first.
Money adds up by just selling junk and doing missions, dont ever spend money on ammo and healing items, you can unload looted weps and you get more ammo than you will ever need.

Just gonna clarify that the artifact slots are underneath the 4 quick-select slots in the middle section of the inventory. Dragging an artifact there gives you its perks, as well as any radiation it emits.

To add to this comment for newbies... unless you also have artifacts that remove radiation you generally don't want to use these artifact slots all the time. Most artifacts emit radiation that, left untreated, will kill you very quickly. Generally you'd use artifacts as required for short periods of time e.g. using a thermal protection artifact to search a fire-based anomaly for more artifacts, or using a wound reduction artifact while fighting.
