Xray Engine 1.6 has stopped working
Every time I launch S,T.A.L.K.E.R.: COP, an error message saying "XRay Engine 1.6 has stopped working" appears. I have tried every possible troubleshooting solution; I've uninstalled and re-installed the game over and over again, all my drivers are up to date, my chipset and BIOS are up to date, I've attempted to run the game with and without mods, I've run the game in compatibility mode. Nothing is working. Any suggestions?

erase the user file, that might do it.

Listen, I'm not trying to be an a$$, but this has been covered on these forums, just within the past couple of weeks, probably about 10x already. I'll tell you what I tell everyone else.

1. Browse the forums. More than likely what you need is within a couple of pages of looking.
2. Delete user .ltx file first. If that doesn't help...
3. Do a search over the forums or Google and find out how to set your all your sun rays, god rays and AA to OFF in the ltx file.
4. Delete Windows Update KB 267083. It's late and I'm coming with that off the top of my head but I'm almost positive that is the right KB update that screws with DX11 for a lot of games, including this one.
5. After all of that is done, do a hard REBOOT and try again. Do NOT try to validate your files because it will just rewrite over all that work you just did on #3.
6. Best of luck. Any other problems feel free to drop me a message on Steam.

I've already tried all of those things and no luck still

In your gamefolder, you should have a folder named _appdata_, where you will find your logs.
Open the logfile with notepad and check the last part, sometimes it gives helpful hints as to what may have gone wrong.
Speaking of which, did you try deleting the second user.ltx file located in the _appdata_ folder?

The log files had a bunch of seemingly random characters, and deleting the second user.tlx file seemed to help slightly as I can now get to the actual gameplay, but it still doesn't work.

Do you have a mod loaded? Sounds like a mod is loaded without its hotfix. Some mods make terrain alterations that will show up as weird characters in a log file. If you don't now, did you before?

Also, I just double checked. The KB Update was 2670383. I had forgot a number. Sorry about that.

Maybe uninstalled the game without deleting the game folder manually?
That will leave behind parts of the mod so naomha is probably right.

I did have Misery 2.1 loaded at one point yes, but the game didn't work even before I installed the mod. Should I uninstall and delete the game folder? Yeah I already had that update deleted.

Yeah, you pretty much want to delete everything associated with CoP. Everything. Misery is quite extensive and just deleting the game and starting over will leave all sorts of traces still around.

Also, what are your specs?

The only problem I can really see is your display. I'm not sure CoP supports 1024x768. Could be why youre constantly getting crashes. Will your monitor support 1920x1080 or any variance of a 16:9 ratios? If not can you do 1024x576 or 1280x720? Your monitor is your problem. Your cpu is good, your gpu is good and your sytem is great. maybe increase your page file to 4gb and up your resolution.

It does, all Stalker games support 3:4 resolutions, i always used a crt monitor 3:4 ratio, everything worked and still works fine even at maxed settings.

I suppose I could up my resolution, it probably won't look very good though. What do you mean by "Increase my page file"?
