Crash on launch

Any help would be appreciated. I have been looking for a solution for 2 days now. I bought the game through steam, no 3rd party.

On pressing play, BugTrap gives an error.

Exception Error: xrengine.exe caused ACCESS_VIOLATION in module "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stalker Call of Pripyat\bin\xrengine.exe" at 0023:00160311

I have the bug report saved if more info is needed. I have tried running both xrengine.exe and stalker-cop.exe in compatibility mode for xp and vista. Also ensured both are running with admin, as well as steam. I'm completely lost. Again, any help would be appreciated. Thank you

I got the same problem but only on my laptop. is your PC running windows 10? and if yes then is it home or pro?

The game runs perfectly fine on my laptop despite having re-downloaded it which means my settings have been defaulted, I would go into a search engine and look up your problem, that's how I usually fix things. However, I think at one point I had this problem and ran it in compatibility mode, that might help.

It could have also been a problem relating to direct x 11, I can't remember

I've tried putting every error I could into a search engine. I've tried all compatibility modes. And I have tried changing the DX settings as well.

yea, its strange since it works fine on my pc which is pro, and it doesn't work on my laptop which is home. one thing I would recommend is you play S.T.A.L.K.E.R anomaly, it is very good and it should work for you hopefully.

Yeah, that's how I eventually managed to play but was looking to redo the original campaign. Thank you for the help though

Right click on stalker.exe and " disable full screen optimisation"

Info for future readers: This specific crash is caused by "Force randomization for images (Mandatory ASLR)" enabled in Windows Exploit Protection settings. For some reason it conflicts with Steam DRM used in the game. To solve this - add an exception for xrEngine.exe.
