DirectPlay
Do you really need to install DirectPlay? The game seems to run fine without it, but it always asks me to download and install DirectPlay everytime I launch it.

DirectPlay is just an API for DirectX. It is not required by any means.

No, Directplay does not need to be installed or enabled to run Stalker. I know steam asks everytime it launches so it okay to just say no to Directplay

You can go into the game directory and delete those .exe's so they don't run every time. I think they'll be re-acquired if you verify integrity though
