best mod for starting out
reworked post
As the title mentions, I am on the look for mods that are good for starting out when I first play the game. Mods that would fix any potential bugs, crashes, soft locks. I know that a few people say that this is a more stable game then the others. But I would rather be prepared. I dont need graphic changing mods, I'm fine with the classic look, no gameplay changers. Just bugfixes.

CoP is very stable compared to the two previous games, no mods are necessary.

ZRP is a mod that fixes many bugs while leaving the game vanilla, you can try it.

You're welcome.

For your first play through try Atmosfear 3 and Absolute Nature 4. I tried it vanilla at first but then at the suggestion of someone else I decided to install those two mods and they really make the game more BEAUTIFUL (in a bleak sort of way). After you tweak a few settings you should run it really smooth.

For second playthrough think about adding weapon mods and more overhauls, but for your first run those two mods only add and take absolutely nothing away. Great game, I would be playing it rn if it were not for this digital crack new game known as Valheim.

I'm using Pripyat Reclamation Patch along with Absolute Nature and the game plays and looks great.

You can enjoy Pripyat perfectly fine without mods, you might consider it for a first run and try mods later

Stalker did not aged well and from graphical sight it could be a no-go for a new player to play Stalker completely vanilla in the first run.

But in the end that doesn't reply the question. He asked for mods and answers like "No mods needed" is not helpful for him, i guess.

The best vanilla CoP mod is a merge between Atmosfear 3, Absolute Nature 4, Gunslinger for new weapon textures and animations (it doesn't add new ones) and if you want, u can use a Reshade but i never used it before. Most of Reshades destroys the relevant atmosphere from the games.

If you want to play it with gameplay-enhancements and how it meant to be played, then install Misery for it, this is actually the best all-in-one mod, you can get. It's a hardcore-mod where 2-3 bullets can kill you and much survival-features. But this is only for experienced shooter-players or people who loves hardcore-shooters like Escape from Tarkov. The story itself is still completely vanilla, so you can experience the story from CoP like vanilla playthrough.

The best standalone-mod based on CoP is Anomaly actually but it's just based on CoP and tells a completely new story. It's a Stalker for sandbox and roleplay-gamer with 4 little stories itself and you can visit the maps of all 3 games. But it doesn't have anything to do with CoP itself except the levels.

If someone thinks the graphics makes the game then there's no hope for them, but OP already said he can 'deal with the basic graphics' so that's a non-issue

It does answer the question. It's like asking an oncologist if you should get radiation or chemotherapy, and they say you don't need either because you don't have cancer

Not really. He asked for mods and all what he got are answers like "No mods needed". If he want to play with mods, then let him. Those answers aren't helpful for anyone. This is like "I have a question." and 5 people replies with "I have the same question." or "Search for it."

Wasted time and energy.
