does the map get bigger?
about an hour in, looking at the map, thinking, "thats kind of small compared to the other games I've played"
does it get any bigger after I investigate the other gunships?

CoP has three main maps, you will eventually move from the starting one to the next and so on as you progress the main story by investigating the gunships Stingray Helicopters.

You can actually move to the next map earlier by talking to pilot in the Skadovsk at any time but you'll pay more if you haven't finished the investigations.
