Transaction quest not available, please help

So I am playing this for the first time in years, and have gotten a good ways through before realising something is missing and duty nor freedom will let me join or do missions for them.
Turns out I need to do a mission called transaction. But nobody anywhere is offering me this mission.
Please don't tell me I have to go back right to the start.

I took the hit mission, informed on the bandits and helped stalkers take them down. After that, nothing. Nobody is offering me any more missions that would lead to transaction.

It should appear later as you progress through the game. You can't exactly miss it

Edit: The Transaction mission is only offered after you complete "The Hit" Since you sided with the stalkers, the mission will be from Beard. Check with him

Beard is the trader in the skadovsk right? The one in the bar area?
The only thing I can get from him now is asking him which artifacts he wants.
I did the quest for the 3 sensor things for the science guys, from the trader upstairs in the boat. Then I went back there, and after a bit of bickering I had a chance to side with Sultan to overhtrow Beard.
But I made the mistake there of getting two of those artifacts and giving one to Sultan and one to Beard, not knowing that Sultan would then refuse to work with me to overthrow Beard.

So now I'm stuck without being able to get the Monolith soldiers on side, or being able to do any of the work for freedom or duty

You don't need the transaction quest to join duty or freedom. It's completely optional.

Yes you do need it.
I go up to duty or freedom leaders in Yantov, and they won't say anything other than answer the questions about their faction.
I can't ask them for jobs and when I ask them to take on the monolith squad they say they don't trust me enough "yet" to take my word for it.

There is no other way I can find to take jobs for these two factions.

I remembered what had happened though. I came back from "the hit" and it was still pitch black outside. I got my reward from Beard, and then took the job to meet the stalkers for the transaction quest.
But then I went to sleep, hoping to take the quest on the next morning. When I awoke I got a message saying "failed" for the transaction quest.
I guess I had taken too long going to meet them.

Ok, tell me how. I really do want to know, because it will save me having to restart the whole game again.

Not sure is this needs hiding as a spoiler but even though Transaction failed have you tried visiting the ranger station to see if Morgan is there dead or alive to get his PDA? Or get General Tachenko's PDA as that can get Duty or Freedom to trust you without Morgan's PDA but you might need to help them out in fights and give a few fallen stalkers medkits first.

I did go to the ranger station, and it's empty.
I haven't come across many freedom and duty guys in the open world to help out.
I have absolutely loads of stalkers who are green now, from helping and healing them.

I do not, however, know who or where this guy Tachenko is. Where would I find him?

I would be interested to know where Morgan is then and if he can still be found anywhere.

The last time I played CoP I was able to get Duty to trust me (and welcome Strider) just by giving them Tachenko's PDA but in previous games just this PDA wasn't enough so I can only assume it was because I had spent a long time prior to that wandering around helping out stalkers and giving out medkits.

You need to be equipped with a certain detector and go to a location on the Jupiter map to encounter Tachenko.

Yeah, you pretty much need to go do the mission or else it'll expire

You might want to start over then, grab the mission during the day to do it and get Morgan's PDA - which is what you give to either Freedom or Duty in Yanov

Like the other have said, because you went to sleep, you missed the time frame, and therefore have failed the mission (I did the same thing).
You can either play on without it and miss out on:
-losing out on joining both freedom and duty;
-won't be able to finish the Monolith mission - >missing one squad member in Jupiter underground -unable to get the "man of balance" achievement which gets Hawaiian and Nitro to reduce prices

If you haven't progressed too far, load a save from before you accepted the mission or before you went to sleep, then go from there.

Thanks for info and help guys. Ended up just restarting and rushing through it a bit. Got the mission and did it (slept before I cashed in the hit), and got to where I originally was pretty quickly.
Thing is, I don't remember too well how the game goes, it's been years since I played it. But I still don't have an option to do any quests for freedom or duty. I mean I gave the PDA to freedom, and they are green now. Got the monolith squad to join freedom as well, and took the freedom guy to pripyat as well.
Still no option for quests from them. All I got was that first quest to take out those duty guys at that stash near yanov station. Reward was a stash of loot in the basement and a freedom suit in my base stash.
Am I still missing something, or does something else trigger more quests from them later?

Now I got a good one.
I was told to meet with reinforcements to clear out monolith forces. I go to meet them and the reinforcements are dead when I get there.
I think because I went close to there before but didn't go over to them, so they spawned and then were likely killed by mutants or something.
But now the quest won't continue
