And you're not forced to. You can always just stand far away and shoot them. There is a threshold where you don't take damage.
And it's misery, im always hopped up on cocaine and morphine. Those are really modeled poorly tho, my guy should have had like 100 cardiac arrests by now.
Before anyone starts thinking I am on the team, so know all the 'secrets', I had well over 1500 hours playing MISERY 2.0/2.1.1 before being recruited to the team. So, I simply learned from my mistakes and adapted ;) "Ooof, that didn't work" "What's going on? (read the descriptions of objects) OH, OK, lets try this instead"
MISERY makes tactics that worked in Vanilla like moseying though a fire anomaly picking artefacts like flowers in a rain coat cause minimal injury or wear and tear on your gear cost you more dearly. I used to dash right over and save Petruha as my very first act in Vanilla. Do that in a rain coat, or try to carry a highly radioactive object half way across the map unprotected in MISERY and you will suffer.
There are multiple tiers of objects you can use from cheap/plentiful/heavy to expensive and weighing nearly nothing. I use epinephrine; less side-effects, longer lasting, more weight/stamina boost.
The same thing goes for armor and weapons. I know guys who insist on playing all possible portions of the game in a raincoat for the challenge. If you're the full frontal assault type that will get you pretty dead LOL. If MISERY didn't have classes, I would still play with a Sniper style.
Apologies for hijacking the thread and getting off topic ;) I welcome questions on ModDb and prefer to answer them there where a much larger non-Steam crowd can also benefit.
I think I will just have to come back later once I have some better gear. The particular spot I was approaching from was quite the pickle too. If I opened fire on the controller, I got quickly mauled to death by two bloodsuckers from behind. But if I shoot the bloodsuckers first, then the controller kills me from behind. In addition, it has like 10 zombies surrounding it as bodyguards which makes trying to sneak up close without it noticing pretty difficult.
With a controller, 2 bloodsuckers, 10 or so zombies, and two psy-dogs all in one spot, I tihnk I will just have to come back later, maybe i'll get a better spawn of mutants next time.
