Installing CoP From Retail Disk
My PC died this week so I've ordered a new one which is arriving on Monday. I have CoP on disk which needs to be in the drive to play but the box is in storage over 100 miles away.

When I install it on the new PC does it need a serial key? I can't remember and if it does I'll need to buy it again which will be cheaper than getting the box from storage. Just to be clear I'm not asking for other ways to get the serial key. If I need a key I will obtain it in a legitimate way.

If I download CoP from Steam what is the file size and do I need to be online whenever I load it up or does it download everything I need to be able to play it offline and access to all the config files?

Cheers

Steam allows offline play as long as you have the game downloaded and installed and yes, you'll have acces to configs(the whole file). As for whether or not you'll need a serial key if you got your hands on the physicsl copy you own,I dont know.

CoP is round 1gb+ give or take.
Offline mode is not so easy. You must jump through hoops to get it working. Basically you must be online just to verify that you want to play it offline. If your internet shuts down and you didn't do this prior then you cannot play. But if you did do it then you can play in the future offline. Steam offline mode is a literal joke.

MM some games work like this but others dont. Some games like stalker will download and archive its own saves. Other games archive them with steam and need to upload your saves to the cloud after you exit them.

The best solution if you want to play offline is to simply unplug your internet. Easy and done. Alot of older games store saves like this and are totally playable without internet.

You will only need to be online to download the game and vanilla COP isnt very big.

You will need the cd key for physical copy. Which may not work because it has already been used on your other pc.

I lost internet a while ago and literally 95% of my installed games would not play in offline mode even though I was offline. It's a joke/scam.

Thanks for all the advice and I tried installing CoP from the disk last night on the new PC which isn't connected to the internet. It installed the game and then prompted for a serial key but I noticed the key is only needed for online multiplayer mode so I was able to skip past it and complete the installation. Loaded up a new game and headed over to the Skadosvk and zero stuttering. Only had time for a quick test but can't wait for the weekend when I can install mods. I can finally visit the Truck Cemetery in CoCwithout it crashing due to no memory and run mods like Misery and SGM which I could play on my old PC for a while but it would eventually start crashing all the time due to lack of resources. To be expected on a core2duo, 2Gb RAM system.

Hell yea, I just finished Misery a few weeks ago. Shotgun is your friend. Saiga shotgun is god.

Don't forget to try and use your cd key on steam or gog, it might work.
