How do you trade?
im playing call of chernobly and i cant figure out how to buy and sell things like guns and ammo. whenever i go to the barkeep all i can say is "i have something you might find valuable" or something like that and i cant find any actual traders.

Try pressing X to open his trading menu while in dialog. It should be same system as in original Call of Pripyat if I'm right.

After pressing it, it should show normal buying/selling interface.

i didnt see one next to the other options
When you enter a dialog with NPC which is able to trade, you should see this big button "TRADE" below as it is on this screenshot:

Let me give you a bit of advice first: Don't play CoC as your first STALKER game. It's the worst thing you could do as someone new to the series.

Inventory management is important so buy a rucksack you can place down somewhere in your safehouse of choice and use to store all the ammo you find. By doing that eventually you'll build up an impressive one-man army stockpile and can then sell ammo you know you will never use and might end up with a few rounds of some hard to find ammo you can sell for a nice cash boost or put to use another way! You never get a good deal selling ammo so might as well keep it even if your current weapon isn't compatible. Also have another rucksack for weapons you find and remember to unload every weapon you pick up and check again before selling just in case. I like to be as frugal as possible and sell nothing unless I really need to so I can then go on a spending spree. Lay out the rucksacks close together which makes inventory managemement much easier. Keep a notepad and pens handy when playing CoC so you can take notes such as buy/sell prices of traders and other regional info.

What he's saying is that its best to play through the standard game (vanilla) before going crazy with all the shinies (mods, overhauls, etc).

I played most of the way through all of them before modding (except for CS).

Good advice all around. Its the constant struggle between being a hoarder/pack-rat and being alive after running from mutants popping out of the dirt.

Heh, while playing misery, I started my own restaraunt/trading-post business out of the Yanov checkpoint. Fry up mutant bits (from minefields [2x], npcs, etc) and sell them to patrols. Then proceed to stack depeleted fuel canisters/tanks at side of building for cover, or to climb onto the roof.
Rest of the time was just repairing broken stuff and selling that, too.
Make sure to stack those corpses high enough for good sandbag protection!

Maps can lie, people can lie.
Landmines always tell the truth.

Some weird ♥♥♥♥ is out there. Some were previously lost to the cutting room floor, before eventually being resurrected. Others borne of creative sadism. Others from D6. A few from the Metro.

F&*k the spectrals!

If playing MISERY, Call of MISERY, or Last Day (see previous 2) then don't even both with f*&king artifacts.

Merc boss - Alright, thats ten monolith patches, and its your lucky day one artifact. Here you go.

Me - [Drops into open hands] What the f**k!?! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, its radioactive!! [Sprints to container for storage while gieger counter starts having a fit].
