I will say that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. mods fall into these categories mostly:

- Freeplay mods = the most common ones for CoP, these mods have no real aim or purpose unless it's just faction warfare. Call of Chernobyl started this but is no longer in development. Forks of CoC have been made to expand on it. The only ones worth checking out right now are Call of Chernobyl by stason174 (my most recommended) and Anomaly 1.5 Beta 3.0, but the latter is a beta with a lot of issues. The next versions of A.R.E.A. and Dead Air will be worth checking out too.

- Story mods = Mods that either tell a new story, or tell their own version of one of the existing stories. SoC received the most of the latter type of mod. There are a number of good story mods, and a LOT of crappy ones. SoC has the best story mods, although many are also standalone. For those who don't understand Russian, my most recommended one is OGSE 0693, but others worth checking out right now are Spatial Anomaly (CoP mod), Valley of Whispers (CoP mod), maybe Lost World Origin for SoC. Non-Russians really get shafted here lol.

- Old build mods = Mods meant to replicate one of the earlier alpha or beta builds of a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game, since they were very different than release. SoC is the game that gets these, and the only really good one is Oblivion Lost Remake, which is one of the absolute best mods. Lost Alpha was supposed to be one, but it ended up being just a story mod, and a bad one at that.

- Vanilla+ mods = Mods meant to just improve upon the vanilla game without changing the story at all. My favorite one for SoC is AMK 1.4, while my favorite for CoP is just using Atmosfear 3 + Absolute Nature 4.04 + Absolute Structures + STCoP 3.2. I can't be bothered to play Clear Sky anymore; I like vanilla CS more than vanilla CoP but CS doesn't have any GREAT mods.

- Soup mods = Narodnaya Solyanka is a very old school SoC mod, it translates to "People's Soup." Any mod that uses this as a base is a soup mod. People's Soup was probably named that way because its goal is to just throw together everything, so you see things from other mods and other games. They're all not far from joke mods except for NLC 7, which is one of the best mods in the series but only machine translated.

- Joke mods = Mods that are just deliberately idiotic jokes, like W.I.T.C.H.E.R.

My personal favorites in these categories are:

Freeplay = Call of Chernobyl by stason174 since it is the best one feature-wise with its improved levels and Extended Offline A-Life addon, plus no Misery mod BS. Misery is an awful, bloated mod in which you spend 3/4 of the game sorting through a million items in your inventory. Anomaly, Dead Air, A.R.E.A., and most other CoC forks use Misery but not this one.

Story = OGSE 0693 with OGSE Weapon Expansion Project, it is really the ultimate version of SoC which basically makes it the ultimate S.T.A.L.K.E.R. experience when compared to what S.T.A.L.K.E.R. originally was.

Old build mods = Oblivion Lost Remake 2.5, there's no other. This and OGSE 0693 are my personal favorite mods in general.

Soup mods = NLC 7 Build 3.0, the only one you can take seriously.

Joke mods = Probably the upcoming Lost Aloha mod that I'm making.

I want to DL & play Anomaly (1.3.3 not the latest beta version) but most files are corrupted
Does anyone who install it can share their experience with me? Did u notice any problem on your pc? Will you recommand to DL & play this mod from mod db?

there's literally no reason not to use 1.5.3

if you aren't going to play 1.5.3, then stick with jester's donut-steel memery-less version of CoC
