S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

mutants
I'm playing with Call of Chernobyl and increased weapon damage at stalker difficulty. I'm trying to kill some mutants for a quest but they seems unkillable.

I emptied 2 magazine on them and they kill me in 2 hits.
Am I supposed to avoid them until I have better equipment or what?

Which mutant?

You also have to hit the mutant.
I think they are called Chimeras and yes I hit them several times picking them from afar. Inevitably they catch up b-lining towards me.

When they close up I unload my weapon on them but it seems ineffective.

Yeah, those are chimeras. They are literally the deadliest enemy in this game.

You're gonna need way more than 2 mags. Bring RPGs or a grenade launcher.

Or, don't engage them. Just run, dude. Especially out at night.

Ok thanks for the advice mate.

I quit going out at night because I became a chimera bowel movement a few too many times lol.

Chimera is using a jumping attack... Its enough to get a solid shotgun and avoid its attacks. Once you learn how to do that its easy

I killed a chimera in coc using a makarov and some help from a guass rifle guy

♥♥♥♥♥ sake, CoC is not misery. Should only need 2-3 mags from an assault rifle, provided you are hitting with the entire mag and are nailing the head, which isn't difficult when it is beelining toward you. Spam meds if you have to.
Learn to dodge, don't fight them if you don't have armor or don't have the skill for it, and if all else fails, rifle grenades or a solid sniper rifle will solve the problem.

Generally, you aren't supposed to fight chimeras until you have good gear, but you don't need an rpg or rifle grenades to deal with them. The only mutant I would say NEEDS heavy ordinance to take on is the psuedogiant, and that's just because of the massive health pool.

I'm sorry what? Did you just recommend sniper rifles and rifle grenades to kill them when your AK fails? And to run away if you can't handle them? That sounds like a suspiciously close, yet less concise version, of my recommendation.:tipheal:

I'm saying that if your equipment can't cut it, get better. Really, rifle grenades/rpg are for lazy people in CoC. If all else fails also indicates it is supposed to be the last resort. Meanwhile, you said one NEEDS heavy ordinance. I also explained the general amount of killing a chimera needs, and a few ways to slow the pain train long enough to kill it.
I also explicitly mentioned simply avoiding them where possible if you can't reliably fight them.

You do need heavy ordinance. You want to tango with 2 of them with a TOZ and a 74u, be my guest.

But ironically, those weapons are very effective against a very large, slow enemy you can backpedal against, like the pseudogiant.

Chimeras move a lot faster. They're also not as loud.

You can sprint to dodge their attacks, sure. That is, of course, assuming you spot them before they pounce on you.

Been there done that, actually. Although two chimeras spawning at once is extremely rare. I again get the feeling that you are going off of misery rules, rather than those of CoC. The only time I've seen two chimeras in one area of a map was when I ran from one, smack bang into another, and wound up letting one tear into me while using it as a meatshield agaisnt the other. The 74U would actually be a pretty good weapon against a chimera, due to it's higher rates of fire.
Anyway, I have taken on chimeras with the sawn-off. It's not exactly easy, but it's not super difficult either. In CoC they don't instantly drop you with a pounce, probably even if you have no armor they won't one shot you. Get hit? Use a medkit and a couple bandages. The chimera cannot outdamage orange medkit healing if you use bandaids to deal with bleed quicker.
Even if you don't have very good dodging skills, it's not hard to use some form of solid object to kite the damn thing around. Or to just run to a nearby faction patrol for help. Even if they don't kill it, they tend to provide a suitable distraction so you can flee.

I haven't played misery in a while. But they must be pretty weak in CoC/Vanilla if you aren't getting one shotted.

It's called the game being remotely fair, given the spawning system CoC uses.
Chimeras are borderline silent when they leap from a distance, and even if they run up and claw you they are very quiet. If they let that insta-kill, then it wouldn't be good for gameplay. It's not fun for the majority of players. Especially so in CoC where you have to go across the entire zone on fetch quests every now and then.
You will still die if you don't stop the bleed and or medkit immediately though, unless you are in upper-mid grade armor or better.

I personally find snorks and burers to be far more of a threat in CoC, thanks to the bugs surrounding the snork's melee attack (for some reason it is an AOE that isn't synced with the animations) and the tendency of burers to pop up in confined areas and steal your weapons. CoC also makes their AOE pulse much more deadly.

I just never found chimeras or psuedos particularly threatening. They are just so straight forward with attacks that unless you end up fighting multiple at a time, or them plus another type of enemy, it's too easy to keep track of them and just matador them to death. I'm more likely to die to a psy-dog than I am to a chimera.

Well in Misery you do tend to fight them 2 at a time. And apparently in Call of Misery you can fight 4 at a time.

Snorks and bloodsuckers become trivial tho once you get armor in misery. You can skin like, a cat while 4 of them smack you non-stop and take 0 damage.
