It is probably the most challenging stalker mod that you can play. it requires LOTS AND LOTS of patience and focus while you are playing. The A.I in this game are LETHAL !!, some might consider it unfair......to each his/her own. Ive played and beaten the misery mod at least three times on the hardest level and ive LOVED every game as no two games are alike. If you dont use true to life military type tactics when fighting the A.I they will shread you like lettuce on a taco. BE WARNED, if after 1 hour you havent gotten into the game then its probably NOT for you. Good Hunting s.t.a.l.k.e.r..
Learn Russian or get out of here Stalker.
When you play Stalker, you slowly learn russian. Even though the zone is in Ukraine. I have learned simple phrases just from npcs talking to me over the course of 200+ hours. Of course I don't know how to spell any of it though lol.
It's Russian, not russian. The zone is in Russia, Ukraine is a fictioanl country IRL. Even the translation means "near border" or "borderland". Border of what? Russia, of course!
To say nothing of Chernobyl disaster which was liquidated by Moscivites while ukrainian peasants ran away and of course the Russian book "Roadside picnic" on which this pathetic attempt at a game is based.
Oh, and you should ONLY play with a keyboard and mouse. Playing with a controller will undoubtedly result in a smashed controller, smashed monitor or a combination of both plus other select electronic pieces lying in close proximity.
It's cool though. The Misery Development Team that created and maintains Misery has, at times, admitted the mod is unbalanced. Except they say it in terms that read like a positive. Don't get it twisted. The classes are HORRIBLY unbalanced. For example, the Recon Class is the build used for those that like to go about their business in a stealthy manner. However, the Recon Class has exceptionally slim chances to survive other enemies and hazards because he (at least when I played it) has ZERO damage resistance. Like, none whatsoever. Even though that class utilized suppressed weapons (think Forta 12, etc) you'd THINK that a stealthy class would be exceptional at CQC. NOT the case with Recon. They made him so weak that he's downright dangerous to play with if you've never played MISERY prior.
However, saying that, MISERY does shine if you play the ASSAULT class character. Of all the classes available in MISERY he's probably the best of the bunch for your first go-round. His/her preferable weapon(s) used in the field can be unbalanced and actually gimp him/her at times but of all the classes available at the moment he/she can pretty much hold their own. A side note though. IF you choose to used a scoped weapon as an ASSAULT class be ready to barf because of the class's inability to aim properly for some reason.
IF you decide you'd like to be the SNIPER class in MISERY prepare to RUN. Like, 75% of the d.a.m.n. time. Snipers are also ( I could be wrong now) the ONLY class that can wear a full SEVA suit with no problem. WHAT???? Does that sound balanced to you? A sniper, someone that must maintain full mobility to hit-and-run ALL THE TIME can wear a full SEVA suit? C'mon.
Pertaining to enemy weapons and ammo. It's HIGHLY unlikely you'll ever find a weapon used by an NPC or enemy that has anywhere near 40% quality or higher. Also, enemies can shoot at you for days and when you kill them they'll have like 5 bullets and a 25% weapon that they were SCOPING you with quite accurately. I call shennanigans. For real. MISERY will do this to you the WHOLE game. God forbid if you need to maintain or "fix" a weapon. Weapon kits are ridiculously expensive/ hard to find and you'll find yourself sticking to 1 or 2 "go-to" weapons and trying your best to maintain them. It's mind-boggling expensive to maintain these weapons as well, which, is quite odd considering most of these weapons used in the game are available, in real life, like the amount of trees covering the land. In other words, weapons, like the ones used in the game, are so bountiful that the fact you must donate a kidney, be a permanent slave worker and steal and kill hundreds of enemies just to fix 1 thing is really unrealistic in terms of what the game makes you do.
Now, I played AND finished Misery prior to 2.0 being released. In fact, I downloaded and fired up 2.0+ and something in the back of my mind told me to f.u.c.k. OFF! hehehehe. In all honesty, I was ready to gear up for another journey through it but something else released at about the same time and my attention span was....SQUIRREL!!! See?
Sorry for the long post. I'm giving you my point of view here since you asked what it was. Listen, it's fun if you HAVE the patience for such things. I did and I enjoyed it but found it to be completely unbalanced and unfair in its "REALISM". Making a game downright whacky and unbalanced and unfair does not make a game "REALISTIC". Not at all. I found, for my playthrough, that merging some traits of the other classes (read, WEAPONS & SUITS) made the game more enjoyable for me. While sacrificing certain qualities by using such weapons and suits it made the class I chose more beneficial for my playtime. Misery does NOT hold your hand and you WILL die. Maybe even hundreds of times before it kind of "clicks" and you get the hang of how to play your class. It is HARD. Very much so at times.
Now, with all that out of the way, if you think you don't have the patience for such a mod then you may be interested in checking out Call of Chernobyl MOD. It, basically, turns CoP into an open world killing fest and doesn't tax you unnecessary so. There's a story there but most people I know that play it don't play it for the story. They play it to go where they want, do what they want and KILL who they want and have fun doing it. In fact, I, personally, find the CoC MOD a lot more enoyable that playing MISERY. MISERY is a challenge-fest. CoC, while it can be challenging, is a little more laid back and not so strict on how you play or what you can use.
Good luck!
It is masochism in digital. No sane man would play a mod where an enemy sees you 500 meters away in a bush in pitch black and kills you with a single headshot. And if that doesn't - mutants do - because they know where you are instinctively and follow you, and if you kill the stalkers at checkpoints - they spawn instantly right then and there (two chimeras and a dog pack near army warehouses bandit checkpoint, for example - beat that in the beginning of the game!). And if that doesn't anomalies do because it's impossible to tell of thheir size sometimes - you throw a bolt and it's okay - you go in and you die. And if you've cleared the whole map and that doesn't...
wait for it...
A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ enemy spawns right next to you. I am not kidding - they materialise next to you with a shotgun. That happened to me twice.
Sure enough only your weapons weather and jam, only you get sick from radiation only you die from bleeding out.
Some people have a lot of time on their hands cause their lives are about smoking weed and living off welfare, so they build mods like these. If you want something difficult - pick something else. This is thing just insane and buggy. And I know - I've actually completed it as a sniper - 40 attempts from one save is nothing strange. I'm not exaggerating here. Fourty. If you're into that kind of ♥♥♥♥ - go ahead. anyone who claims to have beaten it on Ironman is cheating (notice how youtube videos claiming this feat aren't a single large unedited footage).
If they wanted realism so much - by all means. Have my Mosin shot open someone's brain, but no. It takes three-four shots to the head for them, it takes less than 1 for you. If you want to know what a shot to the head does with a rifle despite a helmet - go to r o t t e n.com (witout spaces).
And if all is well and dandy - you crash and your save is corrupted.
If you fart you die, if you play you die. If you come back - you crash. I fail to see entertainment in that.
First, complete the game as is. Second, get Fallout: New Vegas, or Fallout 4 on hardcore get Complete mod or Arsenal Overhaul.
I can forgive Misery everything, just not spawning enemies right on top of you after you've fairly defeated them. That's insane.
Really surprised by what you're saying. Got about 200 hours in various versions of Misery and most stuff you've said has never happened to me. No enemies spawning, no 4 Mosin headshots, no constant crashes or, as you've phrased it, dying just by farting. At the same time, suggesting Complete is a risky choice, as many fans, especially the veterans, will call you out for it as it simply makes the game way too easy.
