Unable to finish a mission - CoP Vanilla

Hey guys,

I've been absolutely loving this game, however I now appear to be properly stuck. I'm on the mission where you need to clear the book store of Monolith troops - I've done that, both my guys are alive, and there's no-one around for miles (I went looking).

What's supposed to happen next is that you examine the antenna array in the central room, but even though my guys are standing there relaxed and happy, everyone's dead and the mission points right to it, I get no 'examine' text when looking at the thing. I've tried reloading from before the mission starts probably ten times (among other reloads), I've gone looking for console commands to finish the mission (can't find any), I've watched videos of people completing it (the dialogue is always there), and I'm flat out of ideas.

Anyone?

I'm really enjoying this game, but I'll be honest, if it's corrupted somehow and the only fix is 'start again', then I'm unlikely to put another 40hrs in to get where I am. I'm aware that I could do it much quicker than that, but I've been enjoying wandering around and doing my own thing.

Strange as I've never had this kind of problem with CoP. Are you sure all the monolith are dead in that room as that is what triggers the examine prompt. There is also an object on the top of the antenna array that you can shoot to dislodge it and it lands on the floor. It's never been useful for anything but it might be worth a try shooting that or lobbing a few grenades at the antenna. Then walk around all sides to see if the examine text appears.

When you hold the tab key what is the last update for the mission? If it's telling you to inspect the antenna and all the monolith are dead and you definitely can't trigger the cutscene it sounds like a game breaking glitch. Try hitting the action key while moving around the antenna even if the examine prompt doesn't appear to see if it triggers the cut scene anyway.

If all of that fails I would load a save just before you leave the Jupiter underground mission and then try again.

Thanks for your response - I've tried everything you've written down there already though, plus lobbing grenades around the walls to make sure no-one had glitched in there. the tab mission statement is still to clear out the book store though, despite everyone being well and truly dead.

I eventually gave up and headed back to the base in a vain attempt to see if anything happened when I talked to the commander...which lead me to find something else.

Turns out I can no longer open doors. I can't get back into the base. It's not that they're locked, it's just that no prompt comes up, and pressing the action key does nothing. It works to check bodies, but nothing else now, apparently. This seems problematic. I'm going to have a look around and see if anyone else's encountered this.

Ok, I kept going back and testing if I could open doors on previous saves - eventually I went back far enough (not impossibly, thankfully) that I found a game where doors still worked. I then played on with that save, and the examination showed up as well. no idea what part of a savefile is responsible for determining whether the action key works or not, but there you have it.

Hey i just played through vanilla cop. I had to shoot the silver generator thing to nock it down then examine it. The next one you find i had a similar problem where i had to "destroy" it where bullets and explosives did nothing. After a while i figured out you have to shoot the floor boards beneath it. Hope this saves some frustration haha

Hey, thanks for that! I have seen that second one, but I'm not on the mission to destroy it yet (I spend a lot of time wandering) - I'll remember your advice though :-)

I know this was fixed for you already but this mission is known for blocking prompt action. If it happens again, just reload a save before the mission and restart. I just hope you won't crash at the freezer.

Thanks - I've bben blocked by a freezer blocking a door, where a burer kept attacking me with things through the now-locked door and I flat out couldn't get to it and had to reload, but as for a specific freezer mission? If I see that pop up, I'll mark the save and remember your words. Thanks!

When you get the mission to go to the Kindergarten I think, there will be a part where you have to open a freezer and there will be a transition afterwards. Just make sure to make a manual save before you go into the place to start the mission because the transition usually crashes people. There are work arounds though so if you crash there don't give up. Just look up some solutions and go back to the manual save to restart. Some people think it only happens on Misery, but I have had occurrences where it happened on vanilla too. Glad I could help.
