Error! Failed to initialize graphics hardware

Hi there.

So i just bought all the STALKER games on Steam.
But when I want to start them all I get is this Error message (see title).
It doesnt matter which one of the three games I start. Always the same Error.

I am running a Win10 Pro 64 system
Ryzen 1600
GA-AB 350 Gaming 3 Board
16GB G.Skill Flare X RAM

I did a little research and maybe the problem is my directX12? Is it possible that STALKER wont run with directX12?
If so, how do I downgrade on win10?

Way to give us none of the applciable info. We need to know CPU, GPU and what resolution you re trying to play at.

Since I could never even start the game I can not tell on the resolution.

What is your monitor's native resolution?

The fact that you are asking about downgrading directx means you don't know much about how computers work, so I'm giving benefit of the doubt. I highly doubt it is a directx issue. More likely the game is trying to load in a resolution unsupported by your monitor and subsequently crashing. I've had that issue in the past myself.

To check the default res the game trys to use, go to your call of pripyat (or other stalker games) install directory, open user.ltx via notepad, and then use ctr+f to search for vid_mode, which is followed by the resolution it's attempting to use. If that resolution looks off, change the resolution shown in user.ltx to something more appropriate and then save the file.

I think I know the issue:

The game may be defaulting to DX10. This causes a CTD at startup.

Try launching the game as an administrator, right from the folder. As in, right click the "STALKER-COP.exe" and select "run as administrator".

Then go to options and set it to DX11 (or basically something not DX10).

I had this same issue and this is how I fixed it.

Thanks for the answers. Unfortunately nothing worked.

I tried changing the resolutions and also launching the game as administrator. But I still get the same error, so I cant get to the option menu to change anything.

Have you tried running the game in compatibility for an older version of windows (eg windows XP, windows 7)?

What Stalker game are you trying and do you get the same error for all of them? Does it happen at exactly the same time everytime? Your gear is more powerful than mine so it shouldn't be causing the error which would suggest the hardware isn't up to the task. The chances are it's not a hardware issue and more likely a conflict with the OS or GPU. I'm not familiar with Windows 10 but I would uninstall all the Stalker games (not sure how easy this is with Steam games) and then just re-install Call Of Prypyat.

It could also be a failing GPU, dodgy stick of RAM or other system hardware issues but that's unlikely. Can you play other games without problems?

Download and update the driver of the video card, run from the folder with the game installation
In the game settings disable the use of 10.1
In the "Compatibility mode" box, check the box "Start the program in compatibility mode with:" and select one of the operating systems that are in the list.

Weird thing is I can actually play the Games now. CoP, SoC and CS.
I installed the Lost Alpha Dev Cut with all the Updates and now, for whatever reason, I can play the games.
During istallation it did a directx installation or something. Maybe this fixed the problem? Unfortunately my computer knowledge isn't that good.

Funny thing is I cant start LA now, but what the hell :)

Ah. Forgot you mentioned Windows 10. Yeah, Windows 10 doesn't come with a lot of the older directx 8 and 9 libraries. Usually though, they are installed as part of installs of other games before it really becomes an issue.
