I would assume, they'd happily accept a gift matching their revealed hidden type as well (since the hidden type is taken into account for most other interactions).
Come to think of it I haven't even unlocked all the location gifts yet. Have you?
It will indeed take a really long time making a full guide. I remember the gifts guides were very incomplete for Matchmaker too. I'll try to keep notes from now on. Good luck!
Thanks for offering to keep notes. This will certainly take awhile.
cuz hippies empathy for other creatures only goes as far as them being cute or relatable enough, my mom is a hippy and she despises insects and reptiles lmao. but yeah, i agree that description is very misleading. from a gameplay perspective, i think the tier 1 gifts are only meant to impress max two types (edit: debunked myself), practical ones like them for sure. i dont actually know who the second is. would edgy people like them? maybe the 'release into the wild' is from an edgy's perspective a potential prank. otherwise my guess would be geeky for being the real insect lovers or sporty for the fishing part. its probably geeky, they would be the ones being most accepting to seeing worms, sporty might misunderstand it or would have expected something a little more high tec or valuable. maybe an edgy spouse only likes pulling prank on others, and when they are gifted worms on their wedding day, they take offense naturally. its first of all only fun when youre not the one being laughed at, but the special day does also emphasize how wrong it is when the worms never were meant for a useful purpose, whereas a geeky type can actually see the value and usefulness of the gift (edit: i forgot all about the box of spiders... but then again, i dont think edgy sees it as a tool of prank, but actual pets)
another potential way to figure it out is to narrow down what other gifts matches these types, if you feel they are all covered by enough tier 1 gifts, or if there is room for more choices. but i dont know 100% if this has been balanced, if some types happen to like more gifts than another. but they did have a much larger focus on balancing the game compared to matchmaker so it might be worth paying attention to
edit: i just scheduled two level ups with both a geeky and an edgy spouse, im going to give them both a can of worms. will see how they react
geeky: hmm... a jar of worms... gratitudes...
edgy: oh... its a jar of worms... thanks, i guess...
double no opinion, haha. oh well. on further inspection, the tier 1 gifts seems to cater the most to sporty types as well as some other for some reason, that might also mean they dont like the worms. it could be exclusively a practical thing. maybe the gifts are not balanced within each tier, but as a whole. or maybe not at all. i also noticed that hipster types are the least liked, especially when they need to come out the closet. whereas some other types have a huge liking from different types. maybe its just part of the challenge, idk. it kind of disappoints me a little that some types must be harder to deal with in general than other types, while some are easy to please. only upside i know from hipsters is their diverse interests which might help them when they need to come out with a different side, and they are more likely to get a pink segment if you pick a really cheap outfit (10-35 coins), whereas some other types demand expensive outfits (+100)
cant remember if sporty likes bandages or have no opinion, but otherwise they have at least three items on low tier gifts they should like, possibly three more though i am uncertain, so that max two rule was wrong ahah. edgy i think only likes the box of spiders now that i have ruled out the worms, i can think of at least nine other gifts in the other tiers that would fit them, but it seems a bit underwhelming compared to other types. i think hippies have at least five items in the tier 1 to pick from, my guesses listed here:
donkey calendar (certain), pumpkin seeds (certain), litter grabber (certain), wellington boots (uncertain), bucket/shovel (uncertain), also pondering about home-made marmalade but i have no other clue than.. fresh organic ingredients? (very uncertain, sixth gift then)
that might explain why worms are not it for hippies, it would be too much since they also like a lot from the other tiers as well
cardboard cut out kitty powers = hipsters love it
donkey calendar = hipsters like it
fishing net = edgy dont care
roll of sticky tape = vintage dont care
squash racquet = chic dislikes it
skipping rope = glam dislikes it
when they reach third stage i will try give them gifts that fit their revealed hidden type and see how that goes
theres another thing i had to reconfirm, if you dress up their partner to fit their hidden type, they wont react positively to it. i can also confirm now that giving gifts to their hidden type is not a good idea:
beaded necklace = vintage/revealed hippy did not like it
here are more experimental gifts to main types, i will keep editing the list as i figure out more:
back-stage pass = edgy loves it
snorkelling set = vintage likes it (added 17th sep)
beach towel = vintage likes it
roll of sticky tape = arty likes it
reproduction medieval goblet = arty likes it
bucket and spade = practical likes it (added 14th sep)
jar of worms = vintage dont care
artisan cupcake = arty dont care
pink party stetson = hipster dont care
sterling silver serving cloche = glam dont care (added 17th sep)
screwdriver set = hipster dont care (added 17th sep)
sports archery set = chic dont care (added 13th sep)
set of darts = sporty dont care (added 13th sep)
event programme = chic dislikes it (added 14th sep)
movie poster = hippy hates it (added 13th sep)
bucket and spade = glam hates it (added 17th sep)
I haven't even unlocked some of the gifts you mention!
Some other gifts that a hippy type didn't like was the bag of manure (or was that the hipster type?) and the deer watching hat.
The cardboard kitty I think is also liked by glam and geeky types.
PS Off Love Life topic... Do you have any insight about the Matchmaker gifts. I'm still to discover what type would like "Stagz for Men."
hahah let me think, i have tried to figure out that gift as well. btw, for some reason i have a feeling hipster types should like the manure, cause theyve had a wave of being into crop growing irl if i remember right
i think sporty men likes that gift you mention, possibly also glam. i think chic dont like it, they like the aftershave instead, glam does too. its kind of hard to figure out who likes which one of these two, but im guessing the deo has a really strong odor due to its description, so its good for sporty types to hide the scent of sweat, where its too much for chic. and the aftershave is good for those types that favor no beard style... maybe. that should mean sporty likes it too, but i cant really remember
Anyway, thanks you for the suggestion about the Stagz perfume. I have tried it on aGlam dude and it worked!
But I should stop highjacking this thread. If I need any more guidance about Matchmake I'll start a thread there.
Thank you, this is a huge help! I could message you the link to the spreadsheet where I'm keeping this data and give you permission to edit it, if you wanted. Otherwise this works good too. I think you need to be steam friends to message people, not sure.
we can do that, i will send a friend invite
