There was no pit crew when the game was first released and how well your pit stops were was based on your mechanics' ratings. Concentration determined how likely your pit crew was to make a mistake, the Part Fixes rating determined how fast they did repairs in the pit, and the Pit Stop rating determined how fast your overall stops were.
When they introduced the pit crew into the game, they didn't change the mechanics ratings in the game, as they kept the same six ratings as before (Concentration, Pit Stops, Part Fixes, Performance, Chemistry, and Reliability) and I've never completely understood what or whether the "top 3" (those in the top row on the mechanics screen) even mattered at all anymore. When the pit crew was added to the game, we were told the individual pit crew ratings' determined most of things now, with the ratings in each different category determining how fast they are in each job and how likely they are to make a mistake is based on their stamina rating.
So we were left wondering what became of those top 3 mechanic ratings as they seemed to be no longer necessary, yet they didn't get rid of them. The bottom 3 ratings (Performance, Chemistry, and Reliability) worked as they always had, but we were unsure of the top 3. I believe I read somewhere that the Pit Stop rating was now used to determine how good new scouted pit crew members were, but have never heard anything about whether the other two ratings in the top row have any effect whatsoever any more. I'd like to know the answer to that as well.
IMO it would be neat if the mechanics' concentration ratings determined how good scouted pit crew members' stamina ratings were, and the mechanics' Pit Stop rating determined how good most of the Pit Crew ratings' were while the mechanics's Part Fixes rating determined how good pit crew part fixing ratings were. Another neat possibility would be to have how fast part fixes were be based on the average between the pit crew fixing ratings and the mechanic's part fixing ratings were. Something to make all three of those top row mechanics' ratings still matter. And IMO it would be neat if these determinations were based on the average of both mechanics' ratings instead of just the best one so that you needed to pay close attention to both mechanics' ratings instead of just one. But I don't think they work that way.
After all no real explanation, that any of those stats are "really" related to the quality of hireable Pit Crew.
Maybe it´s the average of Focus and Pit Stop from the best race mechanic? I´m getting really curious about this now. Maybe somebody else can or is willing to enlighten us..
Race Mechanic's, Pit Stop: 20 rating. Or
If you have a fully upgraded building which gives a +3 boost to the Pit Stop rating; then
Pit Stop: 17 rating is enough.
EDIT: Fully upgraded base.
There's no guarantee of having the best pit crew show up to sign every time;
rarely, there'll be a time when the pit crew selection is not good, for maybe 3 races and then the quality pit crew show up again after that.
