A new Motorsport Manager?
Hello my friends!

Thank you so much for being here and continuing to be part of the Motorsport Manager community. We appreciate you SO much.

Every time someone messages me about an MM2 it makes me happy. I'm so grateful you're here and wanting a sequel.

We all wish it could have happened. It's been a journey!

To be super clear, there is no sequel right now. But the desire to make one is there.

Let's have a chat.
  • What would you love to see in a new game?
  • What would you like less of?
  • What have you enjoyed about other motorsport management games?
If you have ideas for future versions, now's a great time to send them our way.

Feel free to chat through ideas here, or even send deeper thoughts via christian-mm2@playsportgames.net

We may not be able to reply to everyone, but we absolutely will read every message we get sent.

Thank you again for your patience and for being here still. You are stars!

Speak to you soon!

Christian

I'd like to have a Multiplayer. That'd make races more unpredictable. And maybe more ovals

Ooh, really great to see this.

Development wise car:
I really like the simultaneous development from MM3-mobile for the car, but I do feel that it was a bit overpowered compared to the PC version. I'd love to see that but also somewhat nerfed.

I also feel like some upgrades are too powerful over others and sometimes spending 20mil on a part can let you go from 8th on the grid to 2nd on the grid with how powerful said part is. So while certain parts can indeed give a leap of performance for some teams, I think it would also be interesting to see parts "fail".

In this regard I think having a simulation of performance increase of a part, and wind tunnel and such rate it good, but then while putting it on a car during a practice session, which I feel could be used to test new parts before adopting them, it could fail and set you back performance wise.

So what I'm trying to say is, teams usually set a path in regards to upgrades for the season, having the same direction to upgrade for a season and making more in depth decisions on what those upgrades would be, rather than just add X-performance and X-reliability, would be a great thing.

So I guess an even more indepth car development is what I'm saying.

HQ:

I enjoy the HQ development in the PC game more than the mobile versions. Even latestage of the game with multiple championships under my belt, I still haven't fully upgraded the HQ in some series.

Series:

I'd love to see the possibility of managing multiple series in the same save file. Having a single seater, GT, Endurance team all under one banner. With perhaps a budget allocation that you can set with a slider. For instance 100mil budget for the season, 25% goes to GT, 60% to single seater and 15% to endurance. I wouldn't mind the idea of a shared HQ for all the teams or even seperate budgets for all the teams.

But mainly the idea of allowing multiple teams to exist on the same save file. It's quite tedious keeping up with 3 seperate save files to run Formula, GT and Endurance.

Secondly I'd love to see more mixed grid options like the Endurance grid. In endurance atm there's a A and B category simulating the LMP1 and LMP2 classes. I'd love to be able to run a 4 category grid with the endurance A and B and a GT A and B. I think this would also spice up a GT season where some races are purely GT's and other races there's the endurance aspect, or keeping Endurance and GT as seperate categories, but allowing the player to choose to run GT or LMP in the endurance season.

Other than that, more series would be amazing to have.

Rules:

At times I see 4 second differences between top team and lower teams and that's a bit much. So especially for the endurance and GT-categories I'd love to see some Balance of Performance rule thats set based on development but also race results.

Tracks:

Something I've always missed is a track generator for MM or even perhaps the option to export a MM track to for instance Assetto Corsa so I can drive the Ardennes track myself and see if I can get close to the laptimes I see in game.

The variety of tracks in MM are great, but after a couple hundred hours it'd be nice to see new tracks arrive and it'd be even greater to being able to make tracks ourselves, perhaps with a dedicated track maker as DLC.

Sponsors:

I think it'd be nice to see if sponsors were selected seasonally instead of per-race basis. With each sponsor having their own demands on your performance so that when you do well on track, you attract more sponsors or that the sponsors feel that you deserve something extra. Whereas if you'd drop the ball on track, you'd lose sponsorships.

Moddability;

When it comes to workshop and workshop support, I don't have any complaints here. Maybe an ingame custom livery designer would be an amazing thing but I've always liked the ease of adding mods to the game and playing with them.

LIcensing;

I have seen a lot of people wanting Playsport to attract licensing for a new game but personally, I think an unlicensed game would warrant you guys a lot more freedom in what you want to create with the game and how you guys want to approach that. It also allows you to set up driver and personel databases the way you've done it thus far + the custom teams.

So personally, I would be happy without any form of official FIA licensing because it would restrict you guys more than it would help. Frontier has the F1 license and I don't see it as a win for them imho.

Oh my god, are you serious?

If you're serious, we're serious.

Here are my thoughts...

- Keep the core loop experience of MM. It's really tight and concise. You know, race, do the mechanic stuff, part stuff, then on to next race again. That is a solid loop.

- Remove some of the RNG emergent events as you play through a career that give so many negative outcomes. Or at least give the player more freedom to make decisions that might have a positive outcome in addition to a negative outcome, like a choice or something because often they feel like 'gotcha' traps when some event pops up that impacts a driver or the car, etc.

- Keep the top-down isometric perspective, maybe crank up the graphic fidelity a bit. Maybe allow the player to zoom in a bit, or fix the camera to other positions besides above the cars on the track.

- Recorded audio dialogue for races like an announcer or the driver's / crew giving feedback would be cool.

- More tracks! More and more tracks. Maybe even a track editor..? Or creator..? That's a pipedream.

- Make the game less of a grind and more of a tactical thing. This last one is really hard, but sometimes in my more cynical moments I feel like the game is just a gated grind through build orders, rather than some super-dynamic breathing world. I guess this would really boil down to more depth and nuance in racing and the mechanics involved to win/fail within a race.

I love the game. I know very little about racing, or even cars. But this game has a very very tight core gameplay loop and I know with a little TLC it could be even better in a future title. Thanks for reaching out to the community and asking, I'm sure loads of people will have some ideas for you. Please do make MM2.

YES TEAM!

Fantastic start. Keep it coming! Love this!
SkidaRu Mar 23, 2023 @ 5:58pm
- Don't bother with licensed content, I prefer it without
- NO Animated cutscene's for the Love of God please NO!
- Gritty Physics, Tyre & Damage Models
- GFX don't need to be different, it's the little details, add more.

Cheers!... Might as well make MM2 on PC, I know we are very demanding that's becuase this is where ALL the real motorsport fans are.

..I dream of a tiny rfactor2 Zoomed out Motorsport Manager ; )

Introducing individual chassis, engine, and part management. Instead of having a single developed part that's always in top condition, I'd like to see a more realistic wear and tear system. As races progress, the car parts would wear down, requiring replacement with new parts. I suppose this could be similar to the system already in place in the F1 games.

Additionally, I'd appreciate an option for three separate tiers without promotion or relegation, providing a more realistic approach to the game's structure. More money/value focused where your team needs to buy your way up tiers. Winning not necessarily required. You could maybe do it simply by having enough money and/or having famous drivers, etc.

The possibility of a new Motorsport Manager game? We can all hope!

Motorsport Manager has been my favourite game for nearly six years. It’s because of this game I took up Blender; submitting 3D models and overhaul mods to the workshop.

My suggestions aren’t the most original, but they are the following;
1. New racing series alongside existing championships. International or regional, Motorsport Manager would have it's equivalent of MotoGP, S5000 Tasman, Super Formula, NASCAR etc.

2. More circuits! I think this is something we can all agree on. Add circuits from the Mobile games to the current roster as well as new original tracks.

3. If motorcycle racing were to be added, Riders would be more susceptible to injuries. A unique feature for this type of racing could be ‘Rider Stamina’ or ‘Rider Health’. Every time a rider crashes in a race they lose stamina/health. They can rejoin, but once their meter drops to zero; they retire. Either the bike breaks or the rider breaks.
Jaunt Mar 23, 2023 @ 9:44pm
I think a lot of the things I'd like to see have already been mentioned by other people, but I'll still mention the most important things that come to my mind right now.

-Being able to create or edit circuits

-Young driver program or the ability to have sister teams (like Red Bull and Alphatauri in F1)

-An AI that is capable of competing with the player and not being left behind in car development or race strategies. (It may be difficult, but I had to ask)

-Maybe this is hard to ask, but I think you can take many of the changes that were made in the most popular MM1 mods (Fire and Rebirth, etc...) that in my opinion gave the game a lot of life and kept it very interesting even with the limitations of the original game.

-Maintain the modding ability of the original game in order to keep the game fresh.

And I think that would be all from my side, I have many more ideas but these are the first that come to my mind and I don't want the message to be too long either, I hope that a sequel can be achieved for this incredible game.

Hi Christian. Great to hear from you. Nice to see you guys still going strong.

I'll write more later on but I'll start by giving few pointers:

- More tracks
- Track editor
- Next year's car development (inspired by real life)
- More realistic failures and repairs (or lack of repair opportunities)
- Mechanisms in place to mix up the order every now and then like in real life.
- Much more stats and history data.
- More personalized drivers (via values and traits)
- Pre-season tests
- Wet weather should create more danger and make difference between drivers and teams.
- Podium celebration animation.
- Part development more like in MM3 mobile where the outcome is not always positive.
- Opportunity to copy other teams' parts
- Visible car design changes.
- More zoom and auto-management options as default in the game (some of these were modded in)
- "No promotion and relegation" option should be available.
- I'd like to see the news being more serious than just Twitter messages.
- Sponsor negotiations like in GPW.
- Car parts falling off from cars coming together.
- Cars hitting walls, getting stuck on sand.
- Being able to negotiate contracts that start next season (this is a must).
- Running several teams.
- Built-in editor for driver/team names, values.
- Engine manufacturers and negotiations with them.

Some were mentioned by others but mentioning something several times sends a message ;)

I've only been here for 3 weeks, played for 90 hrs by now, and I have been loving this. F1 Manager really got my interest, and found this game as a result
Here are a couple of feedback and wishlist I had while browsing through mods in the game, and some of my personal thoughts (reinforced by lots of discussion I have seen online)

Note, I like my game a bit more unpredictable and dynamic, so here goes:

Race:
- Variability in tire wear and tire heating from driver's stat - probably can make consistency stat affect how variable the driver's behavior is to affect tire wear, heating, and fuel usage
- Crashes between cars happening (rarely, or depending on driver's stat interactions)
- Feedback stat from driver can affect race time as well - driver can provide more information about their status, what they think is the best course of action, such as turning up/down the engine, or ask to be more aggressive, etc...

Mechanics:
- Randomize drivers, and not just their name, but their stats to some capacity - or at least have an option to do so
- The difficulty slider that isn't just lap time gains, but rather part development speed multiplier based on all the factors that a team have (lead designer, factories, etc...)
- More analytics and easier to read analytics post-race
- While I like pro/rel, I do concur with others to have an option to disable it, and instead be recruited by higher leveled teams as a way to be promoted if you are performing well as the team principle
- Answers to Interviews/Dilemmas have dynamic rewards/consequences based on randomization or a new team principle's stat (like player relation, public relation, etc...)
- Marketability of the driver should change whether they win a championship, greatly exceeding expectation in races or for the year, etc... (balancing is up to your discretion :D)

Content:
- More sponsors (I feel a bit bored with the lack of variety at times)
- More part suppliers - can be dynamic based on randomization and team reputation - suppliers withdraw/enter the league
- More tracks!
- More variety in interviews/dilemmas
- Option to have 12 teams on the grid

Thank you so much for this post! I have been enjoying the game so far, and so glad the community is still kicking, and now the main devs are injecting interest back into the series

Cheers!

I've been playing the game since day one and the base game loop still keeps me coming back so there's already a very solid game in place. Almost 7 year old game and depending on who you ask it's on par or better than the newly released F1 manager game and a refined version of it would really solidify it's place as an alternative and given how much more popular F1 is compared to a few years ago there is a playerbase to attract.

Reworked already existing features:
- obviously better graphics and audio would be a plus but don't go the way of F1 Manager and keep the orbiting camera, it's much better for race management to be able to properly see the cars around
- better explained info during the race such as a more in-depth look at tyre temps and how that affects tyre wear and pace
- add an option at the start of a new campaign to manually select the rules for the series
- more info during pitting. rather than just show "if you pit you'd be between these two drivers" actually show a map of where you'd end up when exiting the pits so it's easier to plan and find gaps of clean air

New feature/content:
- more tracks so we can do long seasons like in F1 nowadays
- ability to have multiple races during a weekend such as in F2 and F3
- more meaningful (and optionally more) free practice sessions for example when you build a new part it gives you a range of performance rather than a single number and you gotta run the part in free practice to correlate it with the data back at the HQ so it gives you a better picture of the part performance
- a full electric series and/or the ability to switch to full electric via the rules
- this would probably be a lot of work, more possible rule changes that affect the cars substantially (would be cool if it also changed the visuals of the cars). For example you could switch from simple flat floors to venturi tunnels like in F1, have different sized wings so it increases or decreases the reliance on aero etc

Some personal preferences:
- ditch the tyre/brake warming feature in quali, have that be tied to a driver stat, the better the driver the better they are at preparing for their flying lap
- separate the design and manufacturing of components. once you researched and developed a part you can quickly build another of the same spec

Thank you so much for giving this a thought, Motorsport Manager is one of my favourite games of all time and I would just LOVE an improved version.

Hello Christian, great to see that yourself and Playsport are "alive" still. The casuals may be more interested in F1M now, but between the lackluster features and usage of Denuvo, it doesn't appeal to the MM veterans who still desire a "true" successor. My personal suggestions for a potential sequel are going to go deep into the game mechanics and balance side of things, as that was what I focused a lot on in my guides and modding. Starting from the obvious stuff and working my way down;

- Have every track from Mobile 3/Switch return for the PC game. The extra 4 locations (each with multiple versions) will already be a big step up from what we had back in 2016. Anything extra will be a bonus, but not the highest priority.

- The league pyramid system is a unique selling point of WMC-verse, so keeping it would be vital. Extra series from Mobile 3/Switch optional. I wouldn't do new categories at this time, instead many of the alternative racing styles could be covered in one form or another by...

- New rules. A lot has changed in F1 alone since MMPC, and these changes and more would help make the new game fresh. The format of having a sprint before the GP is being phased into F1 and is already an every round affair for MotoGP. Other multi-race formats could also be implemented in the process, the simplest example being two half-distance sprints). More qualifying options, ways of doing reverse grid in multi-race formats, and flexibility in the endurance rules in particular would also be welcomed.

- Pre-contracts allowing us to sign drivers and/or staff for the following season instead of having to immediately bring them in and jumble up everyone's roster mid-season. To compliment this, I would have the AI be more naturally smart and aggressive in trying to sign the best instead of the current system where they can magically spawn a regen at the end of the season if they need one.

- Keeping in line with staff, have particularly good pit crew members go on to become chief mechanics or designers once they burn out of being a pit crew. Skill decline of older drivers should be much, much slower instead of them becoming quickly useless and retiring.

- Fix imbalances. Us modders can bring the engine disparity down to a sensible level, but can't do much about the rear wing without making the front wing and suspension overpowered. In addition, I'd love a refined TimeCost system where turning the engine mode down directly hinders top speed and acceleration, whilst driving style and tyre wear primarily affects braking and cornering.

- Perhaps a system where a great chassis from season to season requires more than just money? One thing that comes to mind as I type is having the chief designer play a role in building the chassis, providing a variable performance bonus that only lasts for one season. That way signing a good designer can boost a middling team without being the only thing you need, and big teams can suddenly struggle for a season or two if their genius gets poached. A more dynamic grid order all round.

EDIT: I'd be fine with MM2 being like MM1 at it's core, just with more polish and at least some of the features I've mentioned. Two more things that come to mind;

- Close off the practice exploit where an installation lap is enough to get setup feedback. In exchange, make the practice session longer and the AI a lot smarter in creating a solid setup over time.

- Revamp the component tree so that there's more interesting choices to make at each tier, and fewer dud options like the "+reliability with no other benefit" components.

Hello! MM is the reason I got a PC and with so many hours played I'd like to suggest things too ^ ^ A lot of ideas do come from your mobile games after MMPC

- Young Driver Program from MM3 on PC!

- graphics overhaul and the more realistic looking people from the more recent games on PC, with more appearance and hair etc. options

- database editor from MM3 also on PC; I use a custom database and many others probably do too - this would also make it a lot easier to edit appearances

- extra tracks from the later games onto PC (so Stewart Island, Noordwijk, Monaco, Toluca and Bahrain I think it is), extra layouts too would be cool e.g. Singapore short

- more dramatic AI in the races; I feel vanilla game AI in races a lot of the time, just nothing happens, I use a mod that enables car-car contact and Practice/qualifying DNF's and honestly it adds new life to race day in-game - seeing a title contender spin out in the final race is edge of the seat fun for this kind of game - I want to see a bit more first corner messes, more safety cars and over all more race day drama

- pit exit blocking fixed!!

- the third drivers actually being used! This applies too with that I'd love to see AI teams utilise mid-season driver changes, or the third drivers temp. filling in if a main driver is too unwell or underperforming a lot, the third driver will get the seat for a bit so that they actually have a use for AI teams in the game, rather than just money pools

- smarter AI race strategies too would be nice

- the formula tier 4 Open Wheel Sprint series being added, maybe it could be a Jan-Feb "winter" series like Formula Regional Middle East is, in real life

- smarter AI teams that don't massively overspend on 3 costly drivers after a few seasons (looking at you Ozu Motor Team!)

- some drivers racing for longer, 40-45 over 30-35, would be cool

- a bit more of a range of the countries drivers/staff come from would also be cool, it is a fantasy game after all with 50/50 male-female ratio so why not have a few people from Vietnam, Marshall Islands, Chile etc. (PLEASE don't go with IRL teams/drivers/etc.!!!! the fantasy aspect is one of/is my favourite thing about MM!!!)

- the regional expansion in MM3 (how you could buy extra supply buildings and driver programs in different countries) would be good to see on PC too

- regional series' having regionally locked calendars!! this may seem only minor but its a big pet peeve to me lol, I don't want to see ERS in Beijing and Yokohama, nor the APS racing in Portugal or Ardennes it makes no sense to their actual series motifs! ERS should be locked to European nations, and APS locked to Asia, Oceania & Americas for example - if the extra tracks were added it would give a bigger range for all series' to use even with this regional restriction

aside from these I think others have said everything else I'd like to see in a hypothetical game and as others said, MMPC2 being like 1 at its core would be a good thing as its the top of racing manager games; thank you!

Great to see you guys are still thinking about a new PC game!
I agree with most things other people are saying but I would also add:
-the possibility to simulate races just like qualifying and practice
-the ability to costumize all teams and drivers or at least keep the changes the player made to the livery of a team he left
-also, it would be so good if we could design the whole livery and not just change colours on already given patterns
-more competitive AI, not just in races but also in the management side
-make races more realistic, in MM1 drivers sometimes get stuck behind slower cars for ages.

Hope you can come up with something as great as this game :)
