Setups same for both drivers?
Hey all,

would just like to know the logic behind the setups for each driver. Is it expected that they will both "desire" the same setup or will each driver/part combo be different?

Thanks,
Sam

My experience has been they each prefer slightly different. One driver is poor on brakes, another is poor on overtaking, one is smoother than the other, etc - the style of driving affects what set-up works best for that driver's talents - or lack of :)

And after a significant part upgrade things can change too. Furthermore, your drivers improve over time, so their setup preference might change to suit their enhanced abilities.

... and I sometimes wonder if the setup preferences are different because of feedback rating. Perhaps they don't know when it's better or worse if they have poor feedback ?

So the advice the game gives you to use your reserve driver to improve his/her skills in practice rounds is rubbish since he/she will probably prefer a different setup than your main driver ...

1. Yes reserve drivers never seam to be worth to be used.
2. The setup between both CARS is different I am not sure if it is based on per driver. It could be that a high FEEDBACK reserve driver could give you better results for the CAR.

I've wondered the same thing. Always get different setups but they also have slightly different parts. I did use my reserve driver once cause she has a higher feedback rating than my nr 2 and the setup she was happy with at the end of practice he gave the exact same rating after his first qualifying stint. So maybe it is mostly car based?

Other questions:
- does qualifying vs race trim matter for setup?
- does tire type matter?

I'm really suspecting that the different car parts have an effect on setup but the drivers themselves do not. I currently use my reserve driver during testing (higher feedback score) and find he wants a different setup to my top driver, but when I put the second driver in for the race I still see 'setup opinion' in the same place (high 90% range)

No two cars are the same by the way, speaking from experience slight changes and deformaties during construction and assembly can alter there characteristics.

The main logic is that the circuit itself dictates the general direction of the setup, but the drivers adjust it a bit to their own preference. For example you'll never see one driver prefer long gears on the same circuit that the other prefers short gears. They'll both lean on one side, but there will be deviation between them.

It's not just the drivers that prefer different setups .... the mechanics choice is also different. Sometimes the 'mechanics choice' is displaying a red warning sign while the driver seems to like the setting.

That's actually quite interesting. So when the reserve driver gives the car back to one of the 'main' drivers the smiley faces stay the same? Hmmm that is interesting. So it's nothing to do with feedback score or individual drivers. It seems the car itself is doing the 'talking'.

Yes setup are different for both cars, and driver. I've taken screenshots from all tracks with good setups that I use as baseline each season so I don't have to work with setups from the beginning. Even with same driver between seasons, same setup can give you like 98% 1 year, and next year 95%.

Used my reserve driver multiple times now and smileys stay the same when 2nd driver takes over in qualifying.

This is good to know. So no risks involved running test driver if your main driver already has stats maxed.

It's car dependent in its entirety. I don't believe staff or drivers make a difference.

I not believe, i KNOW they make no difference :)
It is Just based on the Track and the Parts you have installed :)

If you find the game too easy, you might want to consider not using last years settings. If you understand the mechanics you can obviously get excellent smileys, but still.
