Ended my first season now i have to build my car for the new season.
So i started my game as predator and ended my season with a pretty good car which actually competed in the middle and top half of the table, i put aside 1 mill per race for building next seasons car.
Now the new season comes around and i build the new car, here is the issue though, that new car i get is worse than the car i started my first season with. Some of the parts are horrible, the engine is worse than what i ended the season with and only on par with the one i started my game wih.

Am i doing something wrong when building my new car? is it possible only to update some parts and not others?
Or is this simply a bug within the game?

Maybe it represents standing still. You're car should get worse over time if it's not being upgraded. So long as the other cars are the same.

I know you upgraded, and maybe I didn't word it perfectly.

Does your car at least have higher potential?

Nope, its worse in all aspects, i spend 24 million on it total with the extra options with have to chose in the mail, i am so confussed by it cause my drivers are super unhappy about the fact i am putting them into a worse car than the one they ended the season in. I dunno if this is only for the player or the AI also gets a worse car

I'm wondering if this is to do with staff stats. Did you hire any new staff in your first season?

Perhaps your designer is crap or he ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up big time.
RogueMonkey Nov 10, 2016 @ 1:12am
Perhaps because motorsport technology advances all the time in the game a car rated 80 in 2016 would be worse than one rated 80 in 2017, perhaps a 80 in 2016 = 70 in 2017 for example? It would make sense to do it that way otherwise in the year 2035 we might have cars rated at 1500 or something.

I ahve a 4 star designer, my mechanics are level 3 and 4. Its very confussing to me tbh. I wish they had covered the whole preseason aspect in the tutorial

If this is how it works then it's fantastic news imo. Performance is always relative to the technology available. This demands you to constantly evolve you car or it will be left behind when other teams improve. And if they improve more than you then your relative performance compared to other teams will be worse.

Can you develope your car only after the season have ended or also during a season?
Kraudi Nov 10, 2016 @ 3:37am
I like that. It was important to me that is is still challenging after couple of years.
Aaron685 Nov 10, 2016 @ 4:00am
That could be because of your engine, fuel and tyre suppliers not being great. I don't know it's just a guess as I'm in the same situation. Had a brilliant first season with Octane Racing but now in season 2 my parts aren't reliable although I have made them reliable. Problem is I'm 5 races into the season and my job is at risk because of not so good results because of parts not being reliable.

Hi Momo,

There are two aspects to next season’s car: the Chassis stats (such as Tyre Wear and Fuel Efficiency) and the individual parts themselves.

The Chassis stats are decided during the Car Design phase. This is where you choose suppliers such as your engine manufacturer. What’s decided here will impact how you approach the season as a whole. For example, if I focus on my Fuel Efficiency instead of my Tyre Wear, I might want to try and stay on longer lasting compounds in races to get the most out of my improved fuel consumption.

The new parts themselves are determined by taking your previous best parts (eg. Brakes with 150 performance rating) and adapting them to the new car. This process creates a new ‘Original’ part. The performance value of a part (150) is retained when you transition to the new season, so you should not see any loss in performance when compared to the rest of the grid.

At the start of the season, as the teams are getting to grips with their new chassis, the parts’ reliability will drop somewhat. This all happens for AI teams as well as the player. After that, it’s down to you to get improving your parts and start designing some new ones!

I see a huge drop in performance, My engine for example drops from 108 to like 60 not matter which of the 3 manufactors io choose, All my parts get worse stats wise and also in potential of performance increase.
Its almost like a soft reset of the game in term of stats on my car and parts. Its not so much the chassis I upgraded, cause i just went hard on the engine first season to a have good one for the second, But both engine i start with a worse I starting starts and upgrade potential.

I took 2 screenshot to show it off.
Before preseason: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=796896410

After preseason: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=796896370

Only parts that retain their perfornance are the spec parts.

Hey Momo!

We’re looking into this, would you be able to send a screenshot of either Santa Ana’s part list or the full parts list?

Santa ana before preseason:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=796973696

Full parts list before preseason: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=796974726

Santa ana after preseason: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=796976951

Full parts list after preseason: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=796977900 (note i reloaded and had to redo the preseason to get this so it might differ slightly from my first screenshot i posted)

As you see even the Santa ana car is lossing a ton of stats. Even though it is worse before preseason too

Also in the parts list before preseason you see i had a banned engine which happened after the second to last race in the season, i dunno why it got banned, i used it for 7 races up until then, they never told me why it was an illegal part they just said i broke a rule but not which rule is broken. Up until then using that engine was perfectly fine, there was no rule changes made in politics or anything to cause this, is there anyway that we can get it so we are told what rule we broke and why the parts are illegal. And does the banned engine have an effect on my preseaon development?

Thanks for pointing this out Momo. And it's awesome that the devs are here in this community and working on these things.
