I love management games, but have no idea about racing
do you think this game will still appeal?

I also want to know this. If I know nothing of F1 etc, can I still make this game work for me? Or do I need knowledge of the sport??

I'm curious as well, but I think I'm gonna go for it anyway.

Had my eye on it for a while and the sale price is right in my impulse zone.

I'm leaning towards saying yes. There's a lot to take in at first if you don't follow motorsport, but the basic concepts should be simple enough to understand if given time. Pit-stops for example are generally goverened by tyre life and fuel tank size, and teams try and plan their 'stints' in advance to maximise speed using as few pit-stops as necessary.

If you're looking for a good real life series to see strategic racing in action, try the World Endurance Championship. Whilst MM isn't 100% realistic all the time, most of the tactics and concepts in long-distance racing carry over into the game, especially in the games own endurance DLC pack.

Don't watch F1 this season though. The FIA turned the cars into thongs and that's terrible.

Yes and no.

On one side, the game is not so difficult inside the manager genre, it is not Football Manager with tons and tons of data and stats, it is not as deep as Paradox strategicals.

On the other, knowing nothing about racing makes it a bit harder to understand and to get profit with race strategies.

Read this, a bit outdated after the game last patches, but very good and inclusive

I'd say yes. It's not hyper-realistic, it's a management game first, designed for fun not for people who love every intricacy. It helps if you know a bit about motorsport, especially regarding tactics and such, roughly how different situations affect race cars, but if you don't know this you should be able to pick it up fairly quickly if you're any good at management and tactically minded games in general.

motorsport is a team sport with typically two cars in a team, you have two drivers who must finish ahead of their rivals to win. you are given the tools to develop your team which helps them improve the car, themselves and in relation to the driver through pitstop mechanics. you can't survive alone on good results, you need sponsors plastered all over your car to recover the costs and help make a profit to keep your team running and pay the costs for development of the car, staff, driver and finally your HQ.

The HQ will allow you to build better components for your cars, unlock better sponsors and produce extra skill points for your staff and drivers but also money as well.

your rivals will be trying to out-develop and out-compete your drivers and team in two seperate championships, the drivers and constructors (or teams).

i would suggest you look up some motor racing from last year to get an idea between the series and what its about. check youtube.

Formula 1 and Formula 2 are good examples for Formula cars.
The WTCC (Now called WTCR) and international TCR (merged and called WTCR) for GT sports.
Finally IMSA and WEC for eudurance.

thats like say you can drive this ferrari supercar around in the wet without a drivers license and saying that you will learn how to drive as you go. without understanding how to drive the car in the first place, stripping the gears in the gearbox will be the least of your concerns.

you need some understanding, ask if you need more.

I've never had the slightest intrest in watching any race of any type in real life, bought this game yesterday and I really enjoy it. I'm the type of gamer who loves sims and management games.

I actually found myself jumping out of my seat, most def a fun game.

You do NOT need to know anything about F1 to understand this game. Most things are common sense things that you can pick up as you play, i.e. exactly how tyre wear leads to X number of pit stops, and how that affects your placement in the race, etc.

Worst case, you might have a throw away season or two as you learn, then you start over with that knowledge and zoom away.

I'd say the pre-season, between-season decisions have the most impact above the actual fine-tuning of race tactics anyway. Unless you start at the top, I guess. I'd read every guide, particularly how part development works between seasons and just jump right in. One of the best games I've owned.
