Driver Traits - do some make others more likely?
Bit of background - I have Shen Qi as a reserve driver in my created from scratch team. She has the wonderkid, modelling tryout, cycling champion traits and she's now 24.

Early last season she decided to invest in my team (Investment Portfolio +100k - nice!). While that was active a few weeks later she picked up Embezzling (-15 Marketability), and a once the IP trait expired she got Offshore Accountant - +500k).

I also had a similar thing with Ren Zhizao - I put him up for being the ERS series poster boy, and eventually after several team marketability boosting traits, he got sick of being in the spotlight, handed me 100 team marketability, then retired instantly.

So as the title suggests, are some traits organised in "trees", i.e. no chance of getting them until another has happened first?

Yes. I can't comment on whether your specific situations are examples of this, but some traits have an "evolves into" property in the data files.

Is there any info on the wiki site (or any other site) about what they are do you know? I couldn't find any.

Here's the raw data extracted from the game files:

If you sort the Evolves Into field by descending (Z->A), you'll see a series of numbers separated by semi-colons. These numbers correspond to the ID field of traits.

So, for example, take a look at ID 95, "Appearing in Film". This can evolve into "96:97". Looking up those IDs, we discover 96 = "Successful Actor" and 97 = "Failed Actor". This is actually a chain that starts with 93 ("Taking Acting Lessons").

Yeah, I haven't found that one very helpful, though I do like the list of traits. Needs more love, that wiki, I think; and since so much of the mechanics of the game is opaque, a robust wiki would be a great help.

Yeah for sure, driver traits are the only thing I've used it for tbh, but the descriptions are still pretty vague. I still don't understand how "Mercenary" and similar traits work, guess I'll have to sign a driver with it and see. I read a couple of the guides on the steam forums to get started, the rest has been trial and error.

Mercenary, IIRC, adds $100,000 to the salary expectations of the driver.
