Track grip
What does it actually affect and how should I change my tiers accordingly?

It means lap tmes when there is more track grip should be faster. No real effect on tyres that i can see. The most obvious thing to be aware of is that times set later on in qulifying with more track grip should be quicker than times set at the start of the session

Track grip doesnt affect tire wear. It will be the same % degradation every lap. Some people suspect that track grip is useless outside of qualifying, others say its useless altogether.

I have a hunch that it *may* have something to do with lap times on harder compound tires. This is because I always seem to get disappointed at car performance late in the race when I use soft compounds for the last stint.

FWIW-I think track grip does come into play during my racing experience.
Late in the race...with the same settings/tyres...I will be informed that my driver just had his fastest lap time of the race...could be due to having less fuel on board and/or better track grip.
Question for the devs.

Track grip is a slowly reducing penalty based on how rubbered in the track is.

<NoRubberOnTrackTimeCost>0.5</NoRubberOnTrackTimeCost>

This line means that when the track is green, all cars have a penalty of 0.5s per lap. This more comes into play in quali as a late run is likely to beat an early run.

You will also notice that as the race goes on, lap times also start coming down, unless it rains in which the track will return to being green.

Makes sense. Its a depth adding modifier, but useless strategy wise outside of qualifying. I consistently set better qually times on a second stint by sending cars out (last lap time + 30 seconds) so they cross the start/finish a few seconds before the qually session ends.

It might just be something I have imagined. But if I do a race with the hardest tyre compound, I find that they keep the temperature better/get a higher temperature when the track is more rubbered in.
