-Started with the default 2 drivers Anthony & Gomes - stick with these 2 for the 1st season , they are cheap in terms of wages.
-Replaced all the staff (designer and both mechanics) went for slightly better ones of 2-3 stars. Scout the free agents to find uneployed staff members.
-Didn't upgrade my HQ at all in season 1 .. wait for the end of season prize money then upgraded the factory, costing 8million.
-You WILL lose money every race so spend careful. See how many races you have left and what each race costs you. Work out what you can spend and spend it on Engine and Gearbox designs. Engine and Gearbox are the most important designs. They offer top speed and acceleration. Top speed for straights and acceleration out of corners.
-If you please the chairman you can ask him for more money, he usually gives about 1.5million at the cost of his happiness. Easy enough to build the happiness up again afterwards. He will only offer money once per season.
-During races put 1 driver on soft tyres and the other on mediums. Have driver 1 push and driver 2 sit back. Give driver 1 say 8 laps of fuel and driver 2 9 or 10 laps of fuel. This avoids stacking in the pit lane. Always put in about 1 lap of extra fuel to see you through to the next pit stop or end race. Doing this will let you use high engine speeds more often.
-Keep tyre wear above 25% aim to have the tyre wear marker in the middle of the Hot and Cold marker on the tyre wear indicator.
-Always start the race with both drivers on maximum engine power and tyre push.
-At the end of the season use your prize money on a HQ upgrade i went for factory. This unlocked the 2 buildings you will need for gearbox and engine upgrade designs, which will come later in your carreer.
-After 4 seasons i won the drivers and constructors titles in tier 3. Am currently in my 5th season and 2nd place in the constructors of tier 2. Patience is key, dont worry if you are finishing out of the top 10 in the first 2 seasons, the podiums and race wins will soon come.
Hope these tips will help you get started with create a team , and enjoy the game.
Having a lot of fun so far, only thing I don't think I like is that the team members are all the same characters (there's doesn't appear to be any randomization with characters).
I basically am doing this exact thing except for the HQ.
I pushed my Factory up to lvl 2 right away to get the extra staffers.
this allowed me to buff out the reliability of parts faster and beef up a few key replacement designs.
I also built in the last couple of races a bunch of new parts that were illegal(never raced them) so that my "base" stats on the next season would dramatically be stronger.
My strat at this point is to focus on building up the HQ while in the lower league, while also boasting the "base" states for each of my equipment.
With the Create a Team you get all your money in a lump sum at the start of the season, whereas with the existing teams, you get your money on a per race basis, instead of at the start of the season. It's not that you lose money on every race, you just have to remember that the money you get at the start of the season has to cover the per race costs. With the Create a Team there is a bit more flexibility in how you can spend your money since with all the established teams, you might have to wait several races to save up the money to do a big HQ purchase, such as the Factory Level 2 upgrade.
I would highly recommend that at some point during the 1st season you go for a Factory Level 2 upgrade. While it's generally one of the first HQ upgrades I do, worst case scenario you'll want it for the start of the second season where you'll want the extra staff and reliability upgrade slots to improve the reliability of your Season 2 car. Factory Level 2 takes 20 weeks (roughly 5 months), and with the start of the season at the beginning of March when you can start to do improvements, you'll want to start the Factory Upgrade no later than Early October.
At the start of the second season focus on the reliability of each of the parts for one of your cars, to keep repairs during that first race to a minimum. Your second car can spend time in the pits doing repairs, but even better is if you can get a Mechanic with the Nurse Perk, which can negate the need to do all but the most essential repairs.
I personally like to make new peoples with the editor to increase the pool to add new peoples to my new teams but still need to figure out a lot of things in the editor.
