"Defensive Meltdown" Achievement help

G'day,

I'm having issues unlocking the "Defensive Meltdown" Achievement where the opposing team has to get 2 errors in the same inning.

What exactly constitutes as an error? I assumed its when the exclamation mark, "!" happens and the runners are safe, however I have achieved this numerous times and the achievement has not popped.

Does anyone have an idea for this or is the achievment bugged?

The ! doesn't always mean an error. It could mean the fielder could not quite get a handle on the ball, but can still be able to make a play such as bobbling a ball, but still being able to throw out a runner.

CPU teams are pretty good about fielding. I've never seen 2 errors in an entire game from them. This achievement probably will never happen. I've never seen it either.

And even if the CPU doesn't get the out on a "!" play, it won't necessarily be an error. Hard hit grounders and line drives can still get credited as a hit in spite of the "!", which makes perfect sense. Also, I don't believe poor throws or dropped catches on attempted double plays where at least one out is recorded will count as an error since, just like in real life, you can't assume the double play.

Surprisingly, overthrows by the catcher on stolen base attempts that go into the OF and result in the runner advancing an extra base also don't get credited as errors, which seems like an oversight. I don't know if I've ever seen an error on a SB attempt to be honest.

This achievement dropped for me about a week after I got the game. Don't remember the circumstances, but as I recall it was against one of the teams with a low fielding rating.

Also, due to an injury or sometimes seeming to get carried away with pinch hitting moves, now and then the CPU winds up with a fielder playing away from their primary position.

I would assume it would be easier to get at a lower difficulty as the other team likely makes less errors at a higher difficulty.

I have seen them make as many as two errors in a *game*, but I guess this is one of those achievements that just happens when it wants to happen. The fluke type of deal.

There are people on the OOTP forums that have played the games for many years and hundreds or thousands of hours and have never had a no-hitter by their team, too.

Or just ask the Padres.

If you need to get it, the best way I can think of would be to create a team where every player's defensive rating is 1 then play them in exhibition until it unlocks. The defense very rarely makes errors in this game, which sucks when fielding is as annoying as it is.

Just got this achievement myself. My team broke out for seven runs in an inning. The opposing shortstop, who already came into the game rattled, comitted two errors. One was an easy pop up in which he did a Dez Bryant and could not catch it. The other was a line drive that he could not get a handle on either.

So yeah, I can confirm that this achievement is possible. Just need a few breaks go your way.

An error is a special baseball statistic

So basically, dropping the ball or missing a throw isn't an error by itself. What it means is that the SCORER (in this case the game) must have judged that if the defender didn't mess up, he would have gotten an out.

So you basically you just have to luck out to get this.

I kinda wish that we could get a graphic on screen in which a ball is misplayed, we can get the scorer's ruling "Hit" or "Error" like on a televised game. I have to wait for the inning to be over to see the line score to see if the error was added or not.

Seconding this. A scorer's decision addition to the UI would be most welcome
