this "game" sucks
Yeah, the visuals are nice, the voice acting is great, and the whole you-get-to-experience-mental-illness is interesting too.... But besides very basic combat... where the hell is the GAME part here?

Ive played this for hours and All ive been doing is walking for one reason or another.

Sorry but I think this sucks.

Suffice it to say you are in the minority by a rather large margin. It has been getting overhwelmingly positive reviews from pretty much everyone(myself included) and was nominated for a bunch of awards.

This topic has been discussed over and over again. Yes, the gameplay is kinda shallow compared to the rest, but this game is not about it's gameplay. If you issue is that it's called a "game" nevertheless, then feel free to name it otherwise. There's no point in discussing about names just for it's own sake.

OP has a point in that maybe, just maybe, the time has come to rename the whole medium to something that fits today's possibilities of what "games" can be better. When I hear the word "game" I imagine a child playing with toys or a boardgame, or maybe even "video games" such as a Tetris or Pong.
While I can clearly see some "game" stuff inside Hellblade, like the puzzles or the fighting (which definitly is basic, but I found it to be pretty satisfying), I agree that this is not the major point of the experience and everyone who comes here seeking an interactive, "gamy" experience without the whole emotional stuff will have to be disappointed.

Fair enough. Like everything else in the world, it's not for everyone.

Reviews have no bearing , and in no way answer the question that I asked; i.e gameplay. People give good reviews for all sorts of reasons and sometimes it has nothing to do with gameplay.

I would agree with you. They really should create a separate genre/label for these types of experiences because they are very different from traditional games. In fact, if I came into this with that particular set of expectations, I probably would not have been disappointed (or at least not as much). But that wasnt the case and here there was a very stark mismatch betwen expectations and actual product for me.

But that's what reviews are there for. If gameplay is important to you and the positive reviews don't mention it (or the negative ones critize it), you know this game is probably not for you. Additionally, there are tags reading "atmospheric" and "psychological" for this game, pointing towards the game's focus. These tags are as close the the labeling thing you've demanded as it could get imo. Where else would you require such hints?

A distinct label that this is a cinematic experience rather than a traditional game.

What's traditional? Pong? I feel creating more words representing the ratio of gameplay to presentation seems an impossible and pointless task. The next person might want more distinct names for arcade or adventures games since the first games were more arcade-ish.
Keep in mind that this game still offers way more gameplay then the typical walking simulator, so this tag would be misleading, too. So we would require more and more labels. Or we just read the reviews. I feel that all information are there, right on the shop page.

Works for me.

The game is 90% story, and 10% gameplay. Ninja Theory wanted to make H:SS like this from the beginning. I treated the game like an interactive book, and personally I enjoyed it very much.
If you want a good story with a lot of GAME i suggest you try metro 2033 and last light.

Sorry but I think this sucks.

This game is based on story telling. You just do not understand this game, simple as that.
