[Solved] Beyond frustrated trying to kill Garm/Fenrir
EDIT: Guys, I appreciate the willingness to help here, but read the comments. I already beat him myself.

I always get along fine in the first part of the fight unless he does his huge slam thing which I can never dodge for some odd reason despite never being anywhere near it. Then when the pitch blackness comes in, I know I'm supposed to listen for it, but I just can't do it. I try to dodge in the same pattern, but it doesn't help at all and I'm literally dying in one hit every time I get hit by this boss. I'm a dark souls veteran and I don't think I ever struggled with a boss this much in terms of how fast I get destroyed despite having an idea of what to do. My Focus ability or whatever is never really up at all and even when it is, the darkness doesn't go away. I've tried to find light before to cancel it out, but there's none to be found. IDK how I'm supposed to progress here. At one point I actually counted the amount of heavy hits I got in on his head and it came out to 84 hits. None of the other bosses in the game were that much of a meat shield or even remotely close to that. What gives? Is my game bugged out?

I played on easy mode so this may or may not help, but I tried to stay away from his front as much as possible. Roll around to his rear end. I also read somewhere that light attacks do not affect him, use heavy only. To dispel the darkness, charge up your sword.

I've left the difficulty on auto as it seems to adjust when things are easy or too hard, as I did find a good portion of the game very easy. I'm playing for the story though, as I adore a good story. Anyways, after sleeping and resting for a day, I went at it fresh just now and beat him my first try without a hitch. Wouldn't have mattered this time if I had to hit him a lot, was definitely just better overall today.

That happens to me a lot. Sometimes taking a break is all you need! Glad you got past it!

I had the game on auto difficulty, and it was after this boss did I realise it adjusted to hard. No wonder it took me five-ten minutes of repeated dodge-hit to finish him off.

So yeah, just dodge to his side/rear and slash away. Rinse and repeat. A lot.

Charge Gramr by holding the attack button down. Dodge when he attacks and then release the charged attack. It behaves as if you used focus to dispel shadow forms, but leaves your focus charges for healing and recovery from the ground. This is introduced to you at the beginning of the sea of souls, but is easy to miss.

Dodging I-frames during Garm's leap attack are important too, otherwise you get staggered.

I already beat the boss and game guys lol, but thanks. Also something to note is that you can do a small dodge (single tap spacebar) in mid swing, which lets you continuously hack away at the beast.

Also I never saw that tip in sea of corpses. Never knew you could do a charged attack. Did figure out near the end of the game that you could sprint and press f to do a leaping kick which staggers pretty much everything in the game that isn't a boss. Excellent vs. the shieldy guys.

There is a sound cue just as he begins to charge. If you dodge just after you hear it, you will succeed no matter which direction he's coming from.
