No its not hard. Combat is not the focus, i would say the game is about 50% walking around and story, 30% puzzles and 20% fights. A playthrough takes around 8-10 hours.
Dont buy the game if you expect some skill based action themed gameplay.
Buy if you want a great and unique story telling experience with beautiful graphics and some decent fights sprinkled throughout.

When it released on aPS4 there was a big fear about dying but I think the devs are messing around :D

There is no permadeath, the threat of that is just another tool the designers are using to amp up the atmosphere of anxiety in the game.

thanks for explaining what to expect. when i bought it i thought it would be somewhat similar to the new god of war due to a site recomened it as a similar game. and just coming from playing nioh the pace seems very slow. but im not going to refund because i like the concept was just worried it would be a 20h game and that might be more than i can handle. going to play it now and thanks again :)

No. It took me 11 hours with difficulty set to hard, without rushing.

It is worth mentioning that some people find the combat difficult, while others don't. I guess it depends on your previous gaming experiences and playstyle.

Also, setting the game difficulty to "Auto" will eventually raise it above "Hard" if you don't die/fail, but will lower it signinficantly upon death/failure before raising it again.

I have tested this myself after wanting a greater challenge after completing the game a few times on "Auto" only to find it much easier on "Hard". So I went back to "Auto".

EDIT: Oh and the game length is probably about 8 hours on your first playthrough. Following playthroughs should only take about 4-5 hours. Of course, your milage may vary.

My only grip about the combat is (just started playing) they come from behind and hit you and you cant see them or get warned (as far as I can tell). If you block you are faceing the wrong way and evade moves you backwards into the attacker. Throw this into I am fighting guys that just keep appearing while fire is all around me trying to get to a gate and it makes it somewhat hard. Any ideas how to fight when things appear behind you that you cant see till it hits you?

Learn and be skilled in evading sideways (A or D + space), not just backwards. And use the Fokus (E) when heavier opponents comes around, when your mirror allowes it...

Late reply, but if you don't spam dodge, avoid using focus and try not to button mash at air, the combat is very satisfying on auto difficulty (scales past hard).

Also, slowly walking back from enemies, while the music builds, only to charge in with a flying knee followed by a combo, single roll, finishing combo, blind parry to another enemy followed by a charged up finisher... never gets old.

Playing this way is self imposed difficulty, but I enjoyed it. It also looks a lot more cinematic than any YouTube video I've found.

You caaaaaaan just use focus or spam dodge and poke, poke poke the enemies and it's not a hard game.... yuck.
