Spoiler The Three Bosses
Am I understanding this correctly? She ran off from home and came back to find her clan killed off and then traveled 9 days to Viking territory and killed two Viking chiefs, or whatever you call them. One who burned a bunch of her tribe up in a sacrfice (hence the "you killed everyone but you wont kill me line" im paraphrasing) and another who was some kind of mystic? The enemies she fights are real vikings, hence the sword cuts all over her body but she is seeing some kind of screwed up version of them because she is crazy? So is the beast in the cave a giant boar that is chasing her? Kind of like in Viking mythology? So weird. Im not sure I really understand it all but Im trying.

*boar from Celtic mythology, not Viking. Oops!

Surtr represents the viking chief who led the attack on Senua's village.
Valravn represents the trauma she experienced in her isolation in the wilds.
Garmr represents Senua's father, Zynbel.

The actual mythological figures of Surtr and Garmr are heavily tied to the events of Ragnarok, while the Valravn is a Danish folktale, probably told to her by Druth.

And yes, the enemies Senua sees are real, but their appearances are transformed by her psychosis to fit the hellish narrative that her mind is basically involuntarily crafting. The people she kills are essentially a canvas on which her psychosis paints horrible things.

*edit*
I should also note that the game refers to Garmr as Fenrir, but it doesn't make much sense unless Ninja Theory subscribes to the not-so-popular theory that Fenrir and Garmr are actually the same being.

Thats cool! Thanks man, that makes sense. Is the viking chief really the guy who killed off her village or just part of her imagination?

Im not trying to be gross but the scene with Valravn looked like she was being raped. He is on top of her and her body is pulsating and moving in a really specific manner while the look on her face is just totally blank. Kind of freaked me out.

I don't think it's the exact person, but as far as Senua is concerned it is.

I kind of got the same vibe. Not too sure what to make of it, honestly. But that was the first thing that came to mind.

more like a crow picking on her body, tearing out small pieces of meat.

I had this rape association as well until I read the crow thing in another thread.

I saw the crow but the first half of the scene the lower half of her body is completely covered in darkness and the way she is lying on the ground and moving suggestively and making those bizarre ass faces but unable to respond is just too much for me. I dont think they were trying to show Senua being eating by a rabid crow in the wild. They were implying something and that scene is just dark AF. But who really knows?

I guess I had another question while we are here. Is Senua, Hela? Like the part of her that wont let go of her lover? Or is that just something she conjured up so that she could move on and let him go? Still pretty confused about the ending. Guess I wasnt paying attention to half the game like I should have. The voices would sometimes prevent me from being able to listen to them at all. Flashing back from one ear to the next like that got a bit overwhelming at times.

Hela, in some sense, represents her psychosis. So the end scene is more or less her accepting her mental condition. It's a lot like the concept of the Jungian "shadow". She accepts it as a part of herself and integrates it, instead of her perceiving it as a plague or "the darkness".
