2.Saving is done automatically at checkpoints. When you see the spinning triskele, the game has just saved.
3. You can get through it in 8 or 9 hours, but if you take your time to absorb the world it'll take longer. I've played it through twice (the second time was for screenshots) and my first run through took about 14 hours according to Steam. Not sure how much of that was just with it open but not being played though.
4. Don't rush. Don't expect loads of combat. Don't panic about the rot (you'll know what I mean when you get to that bit). Do take time to take in the world, the character and the story. Also, it's worth finding all the runestones as they add a lot to the story. I'd recommend using a controller if you've got one, but that was just my personal preference. Play with the lights off. Be aware that the game can be quite an emotional experience. Pay attention to what the voices are saying. Also, ignore the voices.
Playing with game pad is a good idea too. Played it with mouse and keyboard and it works, but after a view hours i thought playing with controller would have been the better choice.
My playthrough took about 11 hours. Take your time, dont hurry!
