also how long is the game roughly

An infinite number of times. Permadeath is a mind game that the devs play on you. Game is somewhere between 6-9 hours. Took me 8.8 hours without dying once.

You're not supposed to know. Without spoiling I can tell you that the game tip is true, but the news articles are lying. You will not find anyone who has had their experience ruined by it.

The game is about 6-8 hours long if you rush to the objectives, 10-12 if you really try to figure out her timeline.

this is a bit confusing at the least
does it reset my game or not? because im unsure how my game experience would not be ruined with that happening

Try not to let Senua die too many times; you'll be fine.

You are meant to be unsure if it does, in order to simulate a bit of anxiety in the same way the game tries to simulate other symptoms like delusions and OCD.

The best way to experience it is to be unsure of what will happen when you die too many times, but if you must know, full spoilers below:

The game tip says "for every defeat" and not "for every death". The rot will grow as you defeat bosses, not when you are defeated. The goal of the game is for the endboss to kill you in order to "lose all progress" of the character you are playing, and it's the main plot twist.

Well, true but a voice tells you that, while the game overlay tells you "every time you fail the rot will grow".

It clearly seems you could be completely wrong, based on that, but instead you're not, just the whole thing is a whole lot more complex.

Full spoilers below.

It IS true that "when the rot will reaches your head all progess will be lost and you will have to restart the game from the beginning", it's just that it can only happen at the very end of the game when you're supposed to die.

As you can see the permadeath thing IS real and is also true the exact opposite.

Quite a nice implementation.

Actually if you die in the Garm section you see a scene where Senua wakes up, as if from unconsciousness and look at the arm- and the rot seems to vibrate and shine a bit as if it's growing ever so slightly.
So I assumed it's possible.

Did anyone confirm if you can get Permadeath?
I think I saw someone say it happened to him -but he could just have been a lying troll.

Lol took me more actually -during my first playthrough. But I was reloading my save file a few times.
And stopping to take screenshots (tons of them) looking for good spots. Also messed around a lot with graphics settings. Also listened to lore stones quite a few times. And split the game sessions over a weeks time.

Think it took me close to 20 I subtract over 5 hours of just not progressing or tweaking/testing performance
Want to play a 2nd more consecutive smooth PT, and find the 4 Lorestones I missed.
wish the devs released a performance upgrade/fix and graphics option patch...looks like they won't...
Game is seriously unoptimized and heavier than it should be.

In my experience I died quite a lot. Not because of combat but because I didn’t understanding the game mechanics. During the Surt challenges I kept getting caught up by the fire because I didn’t make the fastest B-line towards the gate and I kept getting caught by the fire, that happened quite a few times. And during some of the balance beam sections I kept falling again and again because I didn’t know how to rebalance Senua. These were where my most deaths happened. And the rot kept crawling up her arm to a very dangerous point, causing a huge amount of anxiety in me. But I noticed that once it reached her shoulder and seemingly got to the point where her fur pelt was covering up the progression I noticed that when I kept dying the rot didn’t progress anymore than that. Even though based on how far it spread in the past, it should have At least gone up her neck a bit by that point. So I’m thinking that the rot will stop spreading once it reaches her shoulder and you don’t have to worry about it. So I kept dying because of those stupid balance beam sections that I had no idea how to get past, I just eventually lucked out by having an attempt allow me to walk through without her falling miraculously. But in my experience it seemed like the rot stopped at her shoulder and didn’t progress anymore. So I don’t think there is a real permit death mechanic that will wipe out your progress before reaching the final cut scenes.

So you are telling me I changed the difficulty from hardest to easiest at Garm for nothing?

I don't think it's a mind game. Get to the end of the game. Notice the rot. Remember what was said at the beginning when you were warned about the permadeath. Then wait til the end of the credits and see what happens. Yeah, the permadeath happens at the end of the credits, because the rot reaches her head and concluded her story. It was meant to be literal. That final death is at the end of the game
