Report a translation problem
While this is caused by the user, this falls completely on the devs for this. They need to properly test their games to make sure things like this don't happen ever. Especially considering how far into the game you are at this point. (I don't own the game yet but from what I heard this is close to the end of the game.) If the torch is so essential to progress from that point then why didnt they implement a safeguard to make sure the player grabs it.
All they would need to do is put something like a burnable wall right next to the torch so it can stop the player, they can grab it to burn the wall down and continue.

No amount of sprinting in any direction would make me budge, but luckily it was fixed by just alt+f4-ing the game and continuing from the last autosave. It could be that the act of simply reinitializing the game would dislodge you from that type of stuff.

Agreed, but this is hardly the first game to have such issues. Not sure how they handle QA, but maybe they need more BETA testers.
