So is the combat bad?
From what I have heard combat isn't deep and is basically on auto-pilot for kids. Is this true?
Or is it hard, challenging and rewarding? Looking for brutal honesty from some owners. Since every review these days is some kid that thinks everything is great.

I used to trust the steam reviews til I realized most pc gamers nowadays are not really pc gamers, and just foreigners from console who moved over with some terrible laptop because of a c##p youtuber. Seriously, youtubers destroyed real pc gamers. They are few and far between nowadays.

Thank you very much. I appreciate the video. Looks really beautiful. But sadly this wouldn't hold my attention for long. Kinda annoyed, cos combat has been these guys thing, for a while.

It's an experience game with some combat.

If you're expecting DMC or Bayonetta, play something else.

The combat is really simple, but like others have said, it's more about staying alive and is very defensive oriented. You can't just swing wildly or you'll die very fast. Attacking while sprinting also triggers a lunging stab attack, which opens you up for being hit very easily. I'm pretty sure you can't cancel out of this. I found this out the hard way as I died an abusrd amount of times in the first boss battle because of it. If you can cancel it then this is a non issue. You need to do a lot of parrying (perfect parrying especially), blocking, dodging, and waiting for spots to attack to appear in front of you. Her movement speed during battles pretty much requires this as well I feel. She pretty much walks very slowly.

So far I'd say the only bad thing I've found about the combat is her movement speed during combat. It feels so slow compared to how fast and fluid the rest of the combat feels. It's not that bad for normal enemies, but annoying for the fast moving boss fights. I found myself constantly right outside of attacking range. The movement in this game is generally awkard and clunky. It's much more noticeable in combat as entering and exiting sprint mode does not feel at all fluid compared to the rest of the combat. Adding to that you'll probably accidently lunge into the enemy on your first attack only because you were trying to get in range.

One pretty cool thing about the narrative is how the voices are usually giving you some good backup during fights. Looking out behind you or giving you hints on what to do in the heat of battle. Without them there'd be a lot of stupid deaths.

No problem. Indeed it's beautiful and very boring. I had to stop i was at a level where everything is dark because she can't see and i have to concentrate to see trough sounds ... walking super slowly. Boring really.

I applied for a refund today. (The first one I've ever applied for in all of my years of using Steam)
I didn't enjoy the combat one bit, it felt clunky and basic ♥♥♥♥♥ to me and in turn it ruined the game for me, but each to their own :)

Just came her to ask the same thing. Is the combat like Lords of the Fallen or Surge? You know, not dark souls but not too far either?

Reminds me of Ryse

Blasphemy.

It's not bad. It's just minimalistic.

The game doesn't want to be a great melee simulator, though.

That looks like it'll get old reeeeeeaaaal quick.
It would get really old if the game were overlong or if the game was primarily focused on its combat mechanics. The game is principally a cinematic and immersive walking simulator with a simple but effective combat system. Its not a Platinum game. Its not a Fromsoft game. The mechanics the game does have work within the context of the game.

I wish they would publish what's actually the complete moveset, you'd be surprised.

Has great combat for a game where combat is completely secondary.

Combat just gets better the more you play. So much more moves and combos then what it first appears to be.

But it doesn't. It's all mash the same key and when the enemy goes to hit, press key to move away. And that is the entire combat. My girlfriend bought it on our ps4 and it's terrible. Plus what is primary here? The story? Because from what I played was just nonsense. It seems like her tribe was killed and she had a breakdown and carries her dead boyfriends head around now. And all this crap is in her head. Pretty much suckerpunch without the rapey vibe. And just minus the insanely hot Emily Browning. If that equals a great story (which btw the movie suckerpunch was not) then I think I will give up on story-based games.
