Old Senua vs New

I agree, she looked more like a badass. The new one looks like a confused kid.

Old Senua is arguably much cooler, but I like the new Senua better. She's shorter than the original (I think I saw an article talking about how they had to switch actresses early on in the work), and the newer stuff shows her more fearful and overwhelmed. I like the change, she feels more real, especially considering the psychological aspects of the game. She's not some incredible hero, she's just lost everything she ever knew, and there are voices in her head screaming at her. Personally, I really love the desperation this lends to it. She's afraid, and reasonably so, and it makes everything so much darker.

And there is still the possibility that this will change in the game. At the beginning she is afraid, hurt - at the end she gives in to her Anger, the Pain. I am looking forward to see her character in the finished game.

well said pretty much as i see it as well. new senua gives off a more timid ora giving the character the room to grow and really make a huge impact when she begins to rise to the challange.

It's the same actor and face as from the begining. She was meant to be a "test actor" until they find a real actor but they liked her so much they decided she's gonna be the final Senua actor. She's actually Ninja Theory's video editor. :)

Her face is probably just more detailed now and more scared looking which is more fitting for her role. :)

The old Senua seems to have a totally different story ar, aside from her lover's murder. She visit him in that horrid execution hanging/crucify-like instrument- and she seem to already be ready for vengeance and determined. She is a lot more experienced. She even had her battle face paint on her face.

In contrast, in the new Senua scene: she is walking in the ruined burning, impaled village, and witness her lover in disbelief hanged on that...thing. She seems shocked and afraid. She doesn't have her war paint yet, she seem relatively unscathed too.

What I don't understand is what's the role of the hanged man's tree. It is clear that her lover was 'hanged' in a different place. And it's not close to her village. Maybe his soul is "hanged" there.

It is incredible how much the graphics have improved to the point the new game seems totally different and improved 10 fold.
Iit's a shame other characters are filmed live action- and blended in, it seems like a drastic cutting corner move and cheap shortcut.

Well, the team behind this game consists of only 15 devs so corners had to be cut for this game to be released. I think it's actually a smart thing they did with live action blended actors. You can't actually see it's just a video playing. :)

In my opinion new Senua is much better, she's not another angry pop star sugar babe and looks much more authentic.
I mean BloodRayne, Bayonetta, Lollipop Chainsaw and Oneechanbara heroines are sweet and sexy but... let's be honest, I see Hellblade as game about gameplay and story, not about butt, breasts and snow-white teeth (oh, stop! it's about it, LOL) and new Senua is very cool and suitable character that perfectly fit into her visual design and game world setting. Just hope that the gameplay will not be boring.

I like the new Senua because she is REAL. Not realistically modeled, but rather 3D-scanned to match the face/body of their video editor Melina Juergens (I hope she gets a pay raise for fulfilling two job positions). End result is, not some trite supermodel superwarrior superhero, but an astonishingly frightened and vulnerable woman whom I want to reach out and hold her hand to comfort her.
