I can't believe there are people out there who hate the English dub of this game.
I played DR1 in both Japanese and English and I'm playing DR2 in English and I checked out their Japanese voices on YouTube, and I find that for both games, I much prefer the English voices and think they fit just right.

Sorry bud. The Japanese dub is indefinitely better than the Engrish dub. Komaeda's so called english voice actor voices cartoons from Nickelodeon and it is SOO cringy because it does not suit his character at all.
If you're going to use that kind of insult, what if I told you Ibuki's seiyuu voiced a pony? Yes, THAT kind of pony? Are you going to go into out and out racism and say just because she's Japanese she somehow makes MLP immediately better?

I think Saionji's seiyuu also sang the opening for MLP, don't ask how I know.

I honestly didn't like Hajime's English VA, because his voice was too quiet and plain. I could understand that it's pretty much part of his character, but when you can't hear him during trials, then it becomes a problem. It got much better near the end of Chapter 5 all the way through the end.
For DR2 I tried English just once and it was for epilogue, it was awful, I mean last scene, with Makoto and Co near the ship. Choice of voices and acting, both was bad, like a plain amateur drama declamation that completely fails to sound like conversation of real people. But Hajime voice sounded not bad, don't know about acting though, but I guess this voice could work nice with his bit sceptical behaviour.
Overall, English voices changes personalities too much, gives too different feeling of char's maturity and emotions. And Monokuma changed to sound like an irritating cartoon boy instead of original scary cuteness with gender ambiguity (not so big deal for 2nd game though, yeah).
Actually I dislike how any DUB affects original personalities of any ...emmm media narration, and prefer to hear original voice acting with subs.

I hate the monokuma voice it just does not sound as insanely fun as in japanese.. havn't heard the other voices - stoped right there and loaded japanese ones. (monomi minigame finalboss in english by mistake -> *pant* *pant* *pant* ahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahha... nope) - the other ones might be fitting who knows.
I like to play games with original dubs so english was a nono to begin with.. especially since the "horrible" dubs (as in unfitting for the characters) in games like neptune.. urg..
I do enjoy eng dubs animes from time to time though.. i like the funimation casts.. at least in the animes i bought.. there are some bad ones aswell ofc.. - jp dub is mostly better anyway

I like some english dub, but Danganronpa is a no no. I think they are emotionless compared with the jp translation
Danganronpa is just one of the game series which actually has good english dub. Didn't like Usami's and Ibuki's voice though.
Sorry, but I think Monokuma`s and Komaeda`s ♥♥♥ voices are simply unbeatable

well everyone has there prefer.
for me i like the game in there native language. like japanesse game then play itu with japanesse voice, and western game do english voice.

i just thinking when game/ movie got dub i feel that the emotion would be deferent from original.
you know like when the original want to show sad and when dub the sound not showing sad, etc.
so for me i prefer do original voice even someone say the dub version better.

just opinion of mine for enjoying game or movie though. :steamhappy:
Nobuyo Ōyama (voice of Monokuma) is simply irreplaceable for me. I don't think his English voice is half bad, not at all, but I fell in love with Monokuma as a character partially because of his voice, his english voice is simply not good enough. So yes, I much prefer Japanese, but that is not to say English is bad. I think voice actors did a good job.
The DR dubs lack direction. Combine that with the lackluster script translations of 2 and AE and you have some pretty mixed perfomances in terms of quality.
the dubs are kinda bad for example Ultra despair girls Komarus seens to hit puberty as her voice goes full older woman in the last half of he game
monokuma's voice is absolutely painful to listen to.

Nagitou doesn't sound like Naegi despite having the same voice actor in English which ruins a huge chunk of the story.

And there's no hanakana in the English and the best role in the game suffers as a result.
Played through Chapter 1 in Japanese voices with a friend.

Japanese voiced Hajime and Nagito sounded like women sometimes; Nagito, less often so.

I thought English Nagito and Naegi sounded similar.

I got the same impression of Monokuma between the two languages. Though in Japanese, he sounded like a small boy with a cheeky attitude to me. And in English he sounded less boyish and more like a cartoon character.

How does it ruin anything story based?
Its just a thing done for the sake of messing with people.
