The autograbber exists, that helps with both coop and barn.
Called Golden Crackers, it works on all farm animals and Fish ponds by doubling the rate that they produce. What would really be interesting is the effect on fish ponds as well, if there is some use case for the expensive aged roe being doubled, as one pond could run what 7 jars at once?
The best is really the fact that all the rest of the animals work without needing to go outside the barn and forage. What made pigs so good was just how much they earnt you but with this new item it really doesn't feel all that worth it anymore for sure. No more randomly having to hop off your horse to pick one up that is in the way too bonus!
However, there is a new thing called truffle crabs, which can give more loot if they spawn under one of the truffles pigs spawn, which I am guessing combined with the burgalers ring could make it drop up to six? Truffles. No idea on the crab spawn rate though.
Also yeah as people said above to the other reply, the auto-petter and auto-grabber essentially make farming with animals a time-skippable event. Once you setup well enough you could skip a year and come out to 22.4million gold or more. Yes planting is a way to do it with wine but with these changes, animal produce is extremely profitable with no effort.
Though maybe that's making the game too easy? xD
I also found raising ostriches profitable, hatch eggs and let them grow, as soon as they get to full hearts, sell them for over 20,000.. each. and they laid eggs in the meantime to replace themselves.
Go with the Joja route, and auto petters are easy to buy.
You might even find (like me) that the Joja route is more fun than the CC after all.
Pigs are still an excellent source of money, even with the Animal Crackers.
Excluding Ostriches, each animal (with Cracker) gives:
Cow: 690G (345G x 2)
Goat: 1200G (600G x2, every other day, or 600/day)
Sheep: 940G (470G x2, every 3rd day, or ~323/day assuming 1 cloth per wool)
Void Chicken: 550G (275G x2)
(all prices above assume no artisan perk, add 40% to each for that).
Now, Pigs...
Truffle: 1,250G (Iridium-Star, 100% guaranteed with the Foraging perk)
Truffle Oil: 1065G
Now this is assuming *ONE* truffle per day. A max-heart pig can oftentimes dig up 2, sometimes 3 truffles, AND with the Foraging Perk, picking up one Truffle might double it. You could, on a super lucky day, get up to six truffles out of one pig for a total of 7500.
Even with animal crackers, no animal comes anywhere close to touching that.
Pigs are still hands-down the winners. The only weakness is that they produce nothing during the winter.
EDIT: And if you wanna know how that weakness affects the pigs, you can simply slash the price by 1/4th as pigs do nothing for one out of four seasons, so 25% of the time.
So, that 1250-7500 becomes 938-5625 which is still well above the other animals.
"But what about rain?" you might ask.
Well, ok, we can generously assume that it will rain about 4 times per season, for a total of 12 days out of the 84 non-winter days which comes out to about 15% of all non-winter days will be rain. So, we can take another 15% off the above prices and come up with 797-4781 avg per day for the entire year for a pig.
So, worst-case scenario, is you get roughly 800G per day out of a pig. The next-best, with animal cracker, is 690G from a Cow, or 966 with Artisan Perk. Again, assuming worst-case scenario of the pig only digging up a single truffle, and the double gathering perk never proc'ing during the entire year, the odds of which would be astronomically low.
EDIT2:
Looking up Ostriches (I've never had one, which is why I initially didn't wanna comment on them), you get 1 egg per 7 days, so with Animal Cracker, you would get 2 eggs per 7 days.
Each egg is worth 1,200G, though that would be a waste as you could turn it into 10 Mayo, which would be 5,320G.
Divide that by 7 and you get 760/day. Double that and you get 1520/day.
Impressive, but remember that the 800G/day is worst-case scenario for the pig.
If we take the average, and slash a little off for good measure, the pigs are still about 2,500 per day, still well above the Animal Cracker Ostrich.
