I can't get the hang of fishing (reeling in)
I'm playing on a laptop. The mouse controls were impossible for fishing, so I switched to my USB controller(Logitech Gamepad) . I can now at least get a 'hit' on the fish, but the reeling in still gives me trouble. I press the X to get the 'hit' & then have tried all different kinds of things to reel the fish in, but nothing I've tried works. I've clicked the X button fast, slow & in-between -but the fish bar only seems to go up once then drops into the red & I lose it.
Any tips on which button on the controller I should be pressing and what to look for would be appreciated. I haven't been able to catch a fish yet, but have plenty of broken CD's & glasses. Thank you.

The interface shouldn't really matter with the fish. What does matter is whether you're holding down the button to send it higher or if you're "pumping" the button to keep it steady when the fish is.

If the fish is simply darting everywhere, chances are your luck (check the Fortune Teller on TV for your luck) is low or your fishing is low, or you're catching a very high-difficulty fish.

Or a combination of any of these.

Well I pretty much use a keyboard and mouse since it was biggest dream that someday Harvest Moon will get mouse support. Fishing is very brutal in the early stages of the game that I even considered downloading mods to make it easier but as I just went on and fished more it became a LOT easier as you get more fishing levels since your bar gets bigger. I suggest you just hold down the button for short intervals to keep it level with the fish. Also you can eat food to buff your fishing level for a short period of time, you can get these via the kitchen or if you're just starting out try buying the Trout Soup from Willy(250g, +1 fishing level). It may cost a lot early on but, every bit helps.

I know I had serious issues with fishing, couldn't do it to save my life. After we got people to stop being condescending (page 2 in that thread, about half way down), the tips there helped me considerably. Now I can catch fish!

LMAO, comparing it with a shooter. Holding the mouse just does the same pretty much for short bursts(less stressful on the fingers for extended gameplay).

meh, not worth it. That just kills the idea of the developer, but to each his own I guess. Fishing gets way easier anyways as you progress and try catching fish on "good luck" days as luck seems to have an important factor in fishing. And there's also a mod to get rid of the fishing mini game entirely since even bother making it easier when you can just cancel it entirely, RIGHT?

You can laugh all you like, Blade. All I know is I couldn't fish at ALL until I read that post and did what he said (or at least what I thought he was saying) and now I can fish with no issues. That's all that matters. :D
