But yeah, get the stardrop and then you can ignore your wife and work on getting hearts with other people.
Try holding off until you have a lucky day, and only gift-giving when you have "loved" gifts, or just stick to talking, which ultimately gets you more friendship points than anything but "loved" gifts get you per week, and will gradually grind up to cap, anyway.
I don't know if this was coincidence or a bug, but once I got home at ~8 in the evening (after I talked to almost everyone in town, including bachelors) and he was right behind the door, making me 'spawn' a little further up. He complained about me not doing any housework and effectively blocked the door, keeping me from doing anything on the farm until I was frustrated and went to bed. So yeah, I don't think ignoring them is advisable...
Yes, you should be able to date everyone without anyone getting jealous (even though I imagine this will be patched out someday). I've been dating two people in my newer game without any problems. If you want to get 10 hearts with EVERYONE you will need to give them the bouquet, though. Still, there should be no problem.
