Sprinkler not working
I crafted a sprinker that says it waters the 4 adjacent tiles every morning, but so far, for 3 mornings in a row, it hasn't done anything. How do I use it properly?

Make a square around it, it waters only the corner places. I have no idea why. ><

Basic sprinkler waters only the spots immediately above, below, and to either side of it. 4 total.

Also you won't see anything watered unless it's tilled.

Ugh, seriously? What a waste. I thought it would water a 9x9 square around it (4 squares on each side). The description needs to be more clear.

No sprinkler waters that far.

IMO The strength of the sprinkler tiers is fine, but there should be a recipe that allows you to upgrade a sprinkler instead of making the next tier from scratch. Unless you can at least sell the lower-tier sprinkler when you are done.

I'm having the same problem, my sprinklers don't do anything at all and I lost valuable crops because of it.

if your farming level is high enough you can make a iridium sprinkeler and see if that helps
Also, the pig lady sells those.

Best bet for know, pick up every quartz crystal, gold ore, and iron ore you see and refine the hell out of it all, make the advanced sprinklers. It'll save you up time and you'll never regret it.

The description is already really clear: "waters the 4 adjacent tiles every morning". I'm not sure how you could get 9x9 (81 tiles) out of 4 tiles.

The basic sprinklers are absolutely not worth using. Once you can make quality sprinklers it saves a lot of time.

I found recycled broken glass/CD to be a better source for refined quartz as it saves coal. With crab pots, you get them frequently...

Advanced sprinklers are big win:
- they free a lot of time for fishing/mining/animals...
- they allow you to to large scale farming as you only need to fertilize/plant/gather

In second year, I planted like 256 blue berries all with automatic watering thanks to advanced sprinklers. 256/8 = 32 sprinklers. Also invested in advanced fertlizer. Solved any money issue I had...

You have that completely backwards.

Time is money in this game, and for a down payment of a mere one copper and one iron bar, and I have enough of both to be capable of throwing some away by the end of the first Summer, you can make 4-6 of them to handle a small portion of your farm, allowing you to water less of your farm so you have more time to go into the mines and try to break through to the 80th floor and its gold bars.

Granted, once you HAVE gold, it's so much more profitable to make quality sprinklers for a relatively equivalent amount of effort that you'll never want a basic sprinkler again, but they're far from worthless, they're just made essentially obsolete within a fairly short period of time.

Never, ever, use the spa, it's just not worth it. In the first spring, take a little time out to forage salmonberries, and eat those over the course of the Spring and early Summer to save yourself the trips to the spa. When you get the cave, whether it's mushroom or fruit, just eat what you get in the cave as your energy source from then on. Additionally, till soil in the mines to get cave carrots, those are decent. Get extra cows, and make cheese for your own consumption. These are worth 125 energy, which is basically half your bar in one shot! Yes, not selling them "costs money" in opportunity costs, but not nearly as much as the 2-3 hours going to the spa would take you in opportunity costs.

Use the time you save to plow the mines for the gold it takes to make quality sprinklers.
