Treasure Chests while fishing.

I feel like I'm missing something really obvious here... How do I get them? If I try to get the chest then the fish gets away and the fishing game ends. If I catch the fish then I don't get a chest?

You need to wait for the fish to get close to the chest and overlap them both, there are also Tackle later that make it much easier to collect both the treasure chests and the fish.

You need to hover the bar over the treasure chest until it dissapears, then catch your fish. If you don't catch the fish, you lose the chest. It's best attempted when you have the fish nearly caught, then go for the treasure chest and immediately attempt to catch the fish again. Tackle really helps.

Nailed it. I would wait till you get to level 6 in Fishing till you should really worry about them, Best Rod and Tackles become avialable to help with your problem.

Personally, I just hold off catching the fish by letting the bar drop too low if I'm about to catch the fish until the fish goes near the chest on the bar. Time stops while fishing, and there's no penalty for keeping the minigame going for however long it takes.

Get the fish to almost finished, then hover to the chest until it disappears and then back to the fish.

My tip for getting the chest is wait until the meter is almost full and go straight for the chest, Then quickly get back to the fish because if you don't catch the fish then there is no chest.
